Dora The Explorer Talking Digital Camera Giveaway

If you haven’t yet started to think about the holidays and what you are going to get your loved ones I’m sure you will be soon. I’m excited to be able to review some products for you as the holidays approach. I was recently chosen to review the Dora the Explorer Talking Digital Camera licensed by Sakar International. My daughter loves to take photos. If you have been with me since the beginning you will remember a weekly meme I tried to start called Tiny Takes, which was photos taken at Honey’s level.

The only problem is Honey likes to run through the house or outside with MY camera. I insist that she wear it around her neck but I’m so afraid one of these days she is going to fall and smash the lens. So I was excited to be part of this review, well I guess Honey actually did the majority of the reviewing. When the camera arrived, Honey was excited to receive her very own camera. (My child now thinks she is suppose to get something in the mail each and every day.) We put some batteries in it, read the directions, and I let her have it for a couple of days.

The first thing that is important to note when using the camera is that there is a delay between the “talking” and actual picture taking, which is in the instructions. I let Honey know that she could not move the camera until she heard the small beep after Dora was done talking. I was quite surprised that she had no problems with this and never once moved the camera until the beep sounded. I did find that I was unable to remove the photos from the camera without using the provided CD-ROM. I usually bypass any software that I need to put on my computer and use the scanner camera wizard. I’m actually glad I did not do that this time as the CD-ROM is one of the best parts of the camera.

I downloaded all 27 photos from the camera and found that only a couple were viable. However this was not because of the quality but because I believe my daughter is use to my digital camera with the screen display and didn’t really understand how to look through the small view finder when taking a photo. So we had a lot of chopped heads and half photos. Some of the photos turned out blurry I think because we were in a moving car at the time.

I think for a 29.99 camera the quality wasn’t too shabby. I mean you can’t expect the same quality as a $400 camera. Anyway one of my favorite parts I mentioned was the CD-ROM. Once you load your images onto your computer you can use the the software for all kinds of fun things. There are a number of games for you child to play such as Sandwich Shop, Maze Race, Jigsaw Puzzle, Memory, and Sliding Puzzle. My daughter loves Jigsaw puzzles, but after trying it out myself I thought it was going to be too hard for you. Little did I know just how bright my Honey is because finished it she did!

In addition to games you can do all kinds of fun things with your photos. You can add frames, text, and other fun elements. You can create scrapbook pages and stickers. It really is a fun program, especially to introduce small children to photography and the wonders of what you can do with your photos using a computer. Here’s a quick introduction to what you will see when you decide to work with your photos. You see all your photos and just click on the one you want to manage or create with. After that it is as easy as can be the software walks you through things you can do with your photo.

Here is a cute little scrapbook page that Honey and I made with one of the photos from her camera. (One that mommy took of her!)

Honey really enjoyed playing the games, taking photos, and editing them as well. The camera has several different settings from Hi to Lo resolution. At the higher resolution of course you take the least amount of photos, at the lower resolution you have room for more photos. There is also a great battery saver in which after a period of time with no use the camera will shut off. Anyone with kids knows this is a very important feature. Also the camera has been awarded the Parent Tested Parent Approved (PTPA) Media Inc.’s Seal of Approval for excellence in parenting products.

This would make an excellent Christmas for your child, grandchild, or any other child you need to purchase a Christmas gift for.

One of my awesome readers is going to win their very own Dora The Explorer talking Digital Camera! This is a perfect holiday gift for your favorite little one!
