Do you ever walk through the toy isles wondering what do I get my daughter, niece, or that special girl in your life? Barbies, Squinkies, Pet Shops, dolls, dolls, and more dolls. They dolls all look similar none of them standing out about the rest. A doll is a doll right? Then you have yet to come upon a My Twinn doll. When I was asked to review one of these dolls I too had not really heard much of them, however the name My Twinn definitely was intriguing and I admit I was hoping it was what I thought it was.

What is My Twinn Doll?

The My Twinn doll is a special friend for your daughter, granddaughter, son or grandson. We create each doll to resemble a photo, provided by the customer, of the child between the ages of 3 and 12. As the customer, you will choose the skin color, eye color, and hair color, as well as the hair style and texture. From the photos that you provided, our Artisans will choose a face shape that matches an overall likeness of the child and then assemble each doll, complete with custom eyebrows hand-painted by our Artisans and hairstyling by our Hair-stylists. Each personalized doll is created as it is ordered.

The My Twinn head is made from high quality polyurethane petroleum based vinyl with beautiful natural skin tones. The body consists of a plastic armature covered with polyurethane foam tucked inside of soft cloth. The arms from the elbows to the fingers and the legs from the knee to the toes are created of the same high quality vinyl as the head. The hair is of the highest quality modacrylic fiber, lifelike in look and feel, and is professionally styled and cut for a beautiful likeness. My Twinn dolls are 23″ tall and include 18 points of poseability.

When I found out that it was indeed what I thought it was I knew I had to have one of these for Honey. So I sat down to get to work on selecting the perfect doll. You have several options to chose from so definitely get a good look at that special girl before you order. In step one you are able to select between 5 different skin tones, 9 eye colors, and 10 hair colors. This is where I ended up over analyzing my daughter (more on that below). I chose fair skin, light blue eyes, and dark blonde hair.

If you are me you can spend way too much time trying to figure out which of these best match your child, unless it is very obvious of course. The next step in the ordering process is all about the hair. Now that you have the color you need to tell the artist what style your little girl wears her own hair. You will get to chose the length, texture, style, and bang style. For Honey I chose lower back length, straight, leave hair down, and no bangs. These were right on!

Next step is of course just as important as the hair. You have to decide what your My Twinn is going to wear. In addition to your My Twinn outfit you have the option to purchase a matching child size outfit as well. My only suggestion during this step of the ordering process would be to add additional outfits. I really love the pajamas but to be fair to Honey who NEVER likes to wear pajamas I had to go with something more traditional and chose the flower outfit. This is still not something Honey would wear she doesn’t like long sleeves (it is the Floridian in her I guess).

My favorite part was the adding of birthmarks and freckles. I love this added touch and took full advantage of it adding a small amount of freckles to the bridge of My Twinn just like Honey. I also chose to add earrings since Honey has her ears pierced.  When you do add birthmarks or freckles you will be given a diagram of your My Twinn face so that you can show the artist exactly where to add them. After all of these steps the final step is to upload a photo so the artist will know how to shape the face, nose, lips, etc.

So our final product arrived. Sorry I don’t have any photos of Honey holding her My Twinn this is going to be a Christmas present, but I can show you the photo I sent and the doll we received.

The shape of the face and nose is amazingly accurate. The freckles are cute (see below for close ups). Unfortunately though these photos do not depict it accurately My Twinn’s hair is too light and her eye color is off.  This is not at all the fault of the artists at My Twinn it was my wrong selections. My husband said I should get golden brown hair and light blue eyes. I was thinking blue green eyes and dark blonde hair. It appears I should have flip flopped them. She really needs golden brown hair and blue green eyes. However thankfully there is a solution to that as well (read on for more info).

First I wanted to show you the cute freckles…

When you receive your My Twinn it will be followed with an email on how to take care of it including the option to style and wash her hair. Something I wouldn’t have even thought of. So I decided to email My Twinn to ask them since you can wash and style it if you are able to die the hair. They said they do not recommend it but they linked me to another option that My Twinn has that I had no idea existed the Doll Hospital . This appears to have been created for several reasons. One would be to give your doll a facelift in case it happened upon some mishaps (though they are unable to get rid of ink). The second is hair style, eyes, and other changes. This is what I was looking for. I really really love the doll but it drives me crazy that I chose the wrong hair color and eyes. So I’m hoping to ship this back TODAY to request both of these changes so Honey’s My Twinn will look more like her actually twin. I’m hoping to update you with the new photos after Christmas, then I will have one with Honey and her My Twinn.
