Lalaloopsy Sew Magical! Sew Cute! Nintendo DS Review

I will be honest, before this Nintendo DS game neither my daughter or I had heard of Lalaloopsy. However with a few keyboard strokes and our good old friend Google it appears this is a very popular little girl line of products.

Lalaloopsy are rag dolls that magically come to life. Each doll has its own charming personality inspired by the fabric used to make it. They live in a colorful silly world! Sew Magical! Sew Cute!

This was enough for me to select this game as a review item here at Shibley Smiles. Honey is growing quite a collection of Nintendo DS games that come in handing on long trips. She loves to sit and play it next to her brothers and feel part of the “group”.

From Press Release:

The fun begins when players pick a playable character from one of 12 familiar faces, including: Mittens Fluff ‘N’ Stuff, Tippy Tumblelina, Crumbs Sugar Cookie, Dot Starlight and more! Every character is unique; each with their own sweet personality, cuddly pet, amazing homes and special themes and items.

Lalaloopsy™ delivers hours of fun as exciting new friendships blossom. Players will become best friends with the dolls by doing arts and crafts together and then giving those crafts as gifts. Making friends and exploring Lalaloopsy Land will lead the most adventuresome to bigger thrills and enchanting discoveries. There is always fun to be had in the Lalaloopsy world, it’s Sew Magical! Sew Cute!

Honey found the game jammed packed with things to do. The basis of the game is to build friendships through crafts and activities. You choose a doll from the 12 different dolls and as with must games you can customize it as you wish. You will navigate through colorful worlds/levels full of rainbows, gardens, and beautiful flowers. As you go through the game you can uncover hidden treasures to be stored for later use.

I love the idea of craft making in a video game. This may have something to do with Honey’s enjoyment. She LOVES crafts, she has more crayons and markers then one person could ever need. Throughout the game you will enjoy creating digital crafts such as tiaras, jams, clothing and more. Honey can tell me exactly how to make something based on her game playing skills, now putting that to real life could be interesting. The whole concept of the craft making is new to me in a video game and I think this makes the game fun and unique.

In addition to friend and craft making, no game is complete with out a little pet love. My daughter is an animal lover to the core. She loves taking care of her pets feed them of all things biscuits.

Throughout the game you build friendships by sharing the crafts you create. The object it to keep your pets loved and well taken care of and your relationships strong. We all know that “giving” items to a person is not a way of making friends so it is important to keep in mind this is a video game for fun. Not all games played by our children have to be learning tools. If this concept bothers you I would suggest either not purchasing the game or explaining to your child it is “just a game”. Personally for us this is not an issue. I have always taught my children that TV shows, many video games, etc. are fiction and for the purpose of enjoyment.
