Cinnamon sugar fried apple sticks are one of those simple desserts that disappear quickly at parties. They are made with soft flour tortillas, sweet apple filling, butter, and cinnamon sugar, then broiled just long enough to make the outside lightly crisp. The result is a warm apple dessert that tastes a little like cinnamon toast and a little like apple pie, but in an easy, hand-held stick.
This recipe started as a fun way to use tortillas in a dessert instead of the usual wrap or burrito. I wanted something sweet, simple, and family-friendly, and apples immediately felt like the right choice. After a little testing in the Shibley Smiles kitchen, these cinnamon sugar fried apple sticks became one of those recipes that people started asking me to bring again.
After I first shared this recipe, these cinnamon sugar fried apple sticks went on to be featured in my Better Homes & Gardens Magazine Feature, which made the recipe even more special to me. It started as a fun tortilla dessert in my own kitchen, and seeing it become part of that feature was such a memorable blogging milestone.
Why You’ll Love These Apple Sticks
These apple sticks are easy to make but feel a little more special than your typical cookies or brownies. The tortillas roll around the apple filling, the butter helps the cinnamon sugar stick, and the broiler gives them just enough texture without deep frying. They are especially nice for gatherings because they are small, sweet, and easy to grab from a serving tray.

A Sweet Shortcut With Apple Filling
You can make your own apple filling if you want a homemade touch, but canned fried apples or apple pie filling keep this recipe quick and easy. The key is to chop the apples into smaller pieces so they roll neatly inside the tortilla. If you use apple pie filling, try to spoon out more apples than sauce, so the sticks do not become too wet.
I like shortcuts like this because they make dessert easier when you are already juggling dinner, family, or party prep. The flavor still works beautifully with the cinnamon sugar coating, and the finished apple sticks feel homemade without requiring a long afternoon in the kitchen. If you do want to make the filling from scratch, this homemade apple filling is a helpful option.

Tips for Making Cinnamon Sugar Fried Apple Sticks
The biggest tip is to keep the apple pieces small and the filling light. A small line of apples is easier to roll than a thick scoop, and it helps the tortilla stay closed while it broils. Warming the tortilla squares in the microwave also makes them softer and easier to work with, which helps keep them from cracking while you roll.
Keep a close eye on the broiler because the apple sticks can go from lightly crisp to too dark quickly. You only need a few minutes for the outside to start crisping and the cinnamon sugar to set. Every oven is a little different, so the first batch is a good time to watch carefully and adjust as needed.
How to Serve Fried Apple Sticks
These fried apple sticks are sweet enough on their own, but they are also fun served with a small bowl of caramel sauce or whipped cream for dipping. They work well for family gatherings, work parties, fall desserts, or anytime you want a warm apple recipe that does not require making a full pie. They also pair nicely with other apple desserts, especially if you are planning a fall dessert table with treats like apple cranberry oatmeal cookies, mini apple cheesecake, or apple cinnamon flaxseed muffins.
Serve them warm when you can, because that is when the cinnamon sugar coating and apple filling taste their best. If you are making them ahead for a gathering, place them on a tray and warm them briefly before serving. The texture will not be exactly the same as right from the broiler, but they are still a sweet and simple dessert to share.
