As a member of the Whirlpool Test Drive Moms I’ve been assigned the task of testing the Duet washer and dryer. Not too long ago I let you know about some of the key features I love on my Whirlpool Duet Washer and Dryer. Now that I’ve had my units for about two months it is time to let you in on a little secret. Well maybe it is no secret to you but it was mind blowing to me.
It no longer takes me all weekend to do my laundry. I can get the majority of my laundry done in one night, sometimes even Friday night. Most of the time I use the normal cycle on the washer which is 59 minutes. Occasionally I will set it to whites if I have a soiled load that needs the extra hot water. I almost always use the time dry cycle though I really need to try a few others. This is where I save most of my time. When the dryer is finished it its little jingle is heard I’m able to fold the load and have the dryer empty and ready for the load coming out of the washer.
In edition to saving time the Whirlpool Duet is also a huge energy saver.
- Washer uses as little as 11.5 gallons of water per load and exceeds minimum federal standard for energy selling requirements by more the 160%, on average
- Washer’s EcoBoost option takes the guesswork out of efficiency by reducing the water temperature and increasing agitation duration so the decrease in one (temperature) is offset by the increase in the other (tumbling) to deliver the same results while using less energy. The dryer also has an eco-‐ cycle that helps save energy.
- New dryers use sensors to determine when clothes are dry and turn off when dry.
Of course even better is because it is energy efficient this also saves on your pocket book. Save as much as $3,300 in lifetime energy costs and 12,857 gallons of water saved every year. Despite the energy savings and even the money savings for me I’m more excited about the time savings. These days my time seems to rank right up there with money. In fact I folded a load just this morning, grabbed some cereal for breakfast and sat down to write this post. I already heard the jingle telling me my load was dry. Now to be fair I don’t ever just sit and write a post I’m constantly checking email and visiting other sites. The point I’m making is because my clothes are dry on the first cycle not a lot of time elapses between loads so I’m constantly in laundry mood. With my old dryer it would take close to two hours to dry a load so I would move on to other tasks and sometimes forget I was even doing laundry.
Another time saving option that doesn’t come with the washer and dryer and is an extra option is a teenager. Yes my teenager enjoys using the washer and dryer. I can often ask him to start a load and switch the laundry for me which really helps when I’m out running errands on the weekend. I often find him starting loads on his own. We still need to work on his folding skills but half of the battle is getting them to do it in the first place. Thanks Whirlpool for helping enlist my teenager into my laundry schedule!
