Quite a few years ago my mother decided to have a pumpkin party for the family. Ever since then every year we have our annual pumpkin party. The party is usually in the park or at my sister’s house and is full of food, games, laughter, and pumpkin carving (or painting). Sometimes our pumpkins are just a little on the strange side.
When it comes to our party food each of us brings something so no one person is burdened with the cost and preparation of it all. I usually end up with baked beans (well my husband does) and the dessert. I often bring brownies but this year I thought I would try something a little more “in the spirit” and found a great recipe using
To prepare for our party I ran to our local Walmart like I do often when I’m in need of just about anything and filled our cart with Mars candy, decorations, and Halloween fun! Check out all that candy YUM!
So the recipe I attempted where the yummy looking Vampire Bites. Mine didn’t turn out AS cute but I think they will do.
So you may have noticed the LARGE bag of candy and only 12 pieces used here, lets just say that was intentional. First I had a $1 coupon you can find here:. A coupon just means you can buy more right? With this large bag of candy I can add some to the goodie bags along with some other spooky items. Since our pumpkin party is at the park we usually play traditional park games like baseball, frisbee, maybe a little bit of water balloon fun. Here in South Florida we are usually still in shorts around Halloween season.
Each year the family looks forward to our party that is now a tradition. Of course one of the most common traditions of Halloween is trick or treating. Remember when your mom said don’t eat the apples you never know what could be inside? This is a rule that I still follow, we dump out all candy and throw out anything that is not store bought and factory wrapped. I much prefer a bag full of candy bars like Mars variety bags of candy. Fun size or mini’s it doesn’t matter they all taste the same!
Another great tip is to trick or treat in groups. Also wearing light colored costumes and those fun glow in the dark sticks. I love to see families that go all out and dress up together maybe a theme like The Flintstones, or a great rock band. My husband would SOOO be on board if we could do KISS! One thing I love about Halloween costumes is the creativity I love to put on my thinking cap and create fun costumes for everyone it is so much more interesting then store bought ones. I think we would make a great Simpson Family! “D’oh!”
Happy Halloween everyone, would love to know what you do, any family traditions, what are some great family costume ideas?
