Back to School Money Saving Tips

Can you believe it is already that time of the year again? I’m not sure when you start school, maybe you already have. We start next Monday on August 22nd. This year I will have one child in high school, one in middle school, and one beginning elementary school. With three children to clothe and supply that is a lot of money flying out of my pocket.

So any money saving tips are much appreciated. One of the easiest tips if your state participates in it is to take advantage of the “no sales” tax weekend. I’m not sure if that is a day specific to Florida or if other states partake as well. For us that weekend was this paste weekend. Honey and I got up at 5:45 am Saturday morning to avoid the crowds. We do the majority of our school supply shopping at Walmart. Have you ever been to Walmart in the afternoon during the “no sales tax” weekend? Trust me you do not want too.

We spent $100 on school supplies for two children as well as a pair of shorts, jeans, and two shirts for Nick. Because we participating in the “no sales tax” weekend we saved $6.50.

My additional tips are probably a little late, however maybe you can keep it in mind for next year. As soon as summer begins I make sure I look at the sales ads in the Sunday paper for any sales on items I know we need to purchase. I got a really great deal on these shoes for Nick. Usually $50 I got them for $34.99.

Honey has to wear uniforms and usually throughout the summer there may be a sale advertised here and there. Also you can get some really great deals from French Toast. Lucky for us our local K-Mart was closing and I purchased a lot of items for my oldest son who can wear t-shirts. They were priced between $3.50-$.75 each.

In addition to sales you can find some great deals online if you purchase in time remembering you will have to wait for it to be shipped. Some stores like Sports Authority offers cash back on purchases. So you can purchase a back pack and receive a $10 cash back card to be used on a future purchase. Basically when it comes to saving money for school you have to put on your thinking cap and scour the ads, online deals, and stores for great deals on what you need to outfit your children for back to school.
