I was laying in bed doing a little stumbling wishing it was on one of those iPads I’m trying desperately to win. When I came across a post that made me laugh. Don’t remember the post now but it made me think to myself, Colleen, sometimes you are such a “Geek”. It is so funny sometimes when you meet people you see them for who they are on the surface and would be surprised at some of their likes and dislikes. So what is my “Geek” moment you might ask? Well here it is goes…..
My name is Colleen and I’ve always been a “Trekkie”…yes you did not miss read that. I have always loves Star Trek movies. I use to tape them and watch them when I got home from school and then work. I will admit the original was just a little before my time so though I watched it often it is not my favorite.
I loved Capt. Kirk and Scotty and was totally into the whole “Beam Me Up Scotty!” phrase. I think my love of Star Trek was based on my love of Sci-Fi and all the cool (at the time) techy gadgets they used. I am much more a fan of Star Trek : The Next Generation and can remember a lot more episodes. These are the ones that I use to tape all week (not DVR we didn’t have those back then but tape) and watch on the weekends when I lived on my own.
This wasn’t a private thing my family knew and teased me about it. In fact one Christmas I received a Star Trek Christmas ornament and even some magnets for my refrigerator. That my friends is as far as it goes, no dressing up or odd conventions for me that is taking things a little too far. I would like to say I’ve seen all the movies but I’m sure there are more recent ones that I have missed. My husband is as far away from Sci-Fi as one could get. It is kind of like our choice of music. I prefer main stream and Country where he is Metal and Classic Rock. My favorite Star Trek movies is and will probably remain the fourth installment. This is The Voyage Home in which they travel to our time and visit earth to save the hump back whales.
Though I enjoyed the mixing of Star Trek characters in Star Trek: Generations I did not like at all the killing off of Captain Kirk. Seriously why even go down that road he was an icon!
So now that you know one of my most inner secrets. Tell me what your “Geek” moment is? What is one thing you like, enjoy, or otherwise feel makes you a nerd, a geek, or just not as cool as one would think!
