Blogging has become a part of our family. It is something I do just like going to work, taking the kids to school, and household chores. My husband even jumped on the band wagon for a period of time when we decided to try to get a “deals” blog off the ground. Unfortunately for him I just never sat down and really showed him everything that needed to be done to get such a blog off the ground. Not that I knew exactly what to do but I definitely could have helped more with the matter. With his new job the blog just kind of took a back seat to everything else. My husband enjoyed the writing part of the blog but not all the things you have to do to get people to your blog.
A thought had crossed my mine. Both of my boys are very computer literate. In fact all my children are. Honey knows how to get around the computer just as well as her brothers, her only handicap is not knowing how to read where she lands. The boys are both math minded individuals like both my husband and I. Yes believe it or not as I write each day for my blog I admit that I absolutely HATED English in school. I’m sure my blog is littered with grammatical errors. Since English is also not their favorite subject I thought it might be fun to encourage both of them in a way that would be fun. How did I do this?
I made both of my boys staff writers for Shibley Smiles. It may or may not last but right now it is exciting to them. Both of them have sent me post. Of course the editor (who needs her own editor) has final say on all post before they are published. The purpose of this is to help the boys understand how to get a thought across in a manner that make sense to the reader. I’m hoping that if they are writing for fun it will improve their grammar, spelling, and vocabulary. More importantly it brings them into my little world here at Shibley Smiles.
Nick (I mean Mets Fan) was very excited to be the first to publish a post. We sat down together to tweek it after he was finished, and he approved of the final cut. It is this tweeking that I hope he learns how to write more fluently. I encourage you stop by and read it and leave him a little bloggy love : Blogging Family Style : A New Staff Writer : Mets Fan . This is an experiment with the kids and it will be interesting to see how it plays out. Hope you are along for the ride.
