First Day of Kindergarten Poem

This is such a sweet poem for the first day of Kindergarten. My nephew received this from his teacher on his first day of Kindergarten.

First Day of Kindergarten

I gave you a little wink and smile
as you entered my room today.
For I know how hard it is to leave
and know your child must stay.
You’ve been with him for five years now
and have been a loving guide,
But now, alas, the time has come
to leave him at my side.
Just know that as you drive away
and tears down your cheeks may flow
I’ll love him as I would my own
and help him learn and grow.
So please put your mind at ease
and cry those tears no more
For I will love him and take him in
when you leave him at my door.

silver kisses

  1. Now there’s a kindergarten teacher who understands! What a thoughtful thing to send home to parents. Thanks for sharing it!

  2. That’s so sweet! It’s harder for many parents on the first day of school than it is for the kids. I remember dropping off my child the first day and the teacher saying to the all of the parents that they needed to say goodbye, otherwise the kids would spend the whole day staring at their parents through the window. I know I was one of the people who would have spied the whole time!

  3. It was so hard to leave my boys in kindergarten. I homeschool them now, but didn’t then, and with each child going off to school it got harder and harder to give up that chunk of time that used to be for “us.”
