First Day of Kindergarten Poem

This is such a sweet poem for the first day of Kindergarten. My nephew received this from his teacher on his first day of Kindergarten.

First Day of Kindergarten

I gave you a little wink and smile
as you entered my room today.
For I know how hard it is to leave
and know your child must stay.
You’ve been with him for five years now
and have been a loving guide,
But now, alas, the time has come
to leave him at my side.
Just know that as you drive away
and tears down your cheeks may flow
I’ll love him as I would my own
and help him learn and grow.
So please put your mind at ease
and cry those tears no more
For I will love him and take him in
when you leave him at my door.

silver kisses

omg my twin girls are starting kinder in just a few days and that totally made me tear up!! and what an incredibly sweet thing for your nephew’s teacher to do.

  6. That is a very sweet poem. Thanks for sharing it.

  7. Cynthia R says:

What a wonderful sweet poem, did the teacher write it herself? How very considerate of her to be thinking of the parents.

  8. How sweet! I remember my son going to his fist day of Kindergarten like it was yesterday. Yet yesterday, I dropped him off for his first day of middle school. Sigh.

  10. This is very thoughtful. I dropped my kindergartener off two weeks ago. I would have been crying if I wasn’t teaching across the hall 🙂

  11. ellen beck says:

That is a sweet poem it is so hard to see them go after the years you had them all to yourself. Sounds like an excellent teacher!

  12. Aww that is wonderful. Kind of brought a tear to my eye since we’re dropping off our daughter at college in less than a week. I remember when we dropped her off at kindergarten!

  13. That is so sweet! My daughter received a little poem from her first grade teacher.

  14. Christina G. says:

That’s really nice, and says something about the teacher’s character. Thanks for sharing!

  15. Rhiannon Rowland says:

Its been many years since I did that, but this poem still speaks to me…. I sure did cry that day!

  16. Now there’s a kindergarten teacher who understands! What a thoughtful thing to send home to parents. Thanks for sharing it!

  17. That’s so sweet! It’s harder for many parents on the first day of school than it is for the kids. I remember dropping off my child the first day and the teacher saying to the all of the parents that they needed to say goodbye, otherwise the kids would spend the whole day staring at their parents through the window. I know I was one of the people who would have spied the whole time!

  18. It was so hard to leave my boys in kindergarten. I homeschool them now, but didn’t then, and with each child going off to school it got harder and harder to give up that chunk of time that used to be for “us.”
