What little girl doesn’t LOVE to get their nails and toes painted? Honey is always asking me to paint her nails. I myself had never really given much thought as to what was in the nail polish. I’ve been painting my nails for years and remember doing so as a child as well. I was surprised when I read the story of how Piggy Paint was born.

My name is Melanie Hurley, founder of Piggy Paint™. I am a stay-at-home mom with two very fancy little girls, ages 4 and 6, who love to have their fingernails painted. I’ve always hated the thought of my kiddos putting their hands in their mouths after I painted their nails with traditional kid polishes. Not only did the ingestion of the chemicals worry me, but the smell nearly left me light-headed after painting two sets of fingernails and toenails.

One day while we were painting nails over a foam plate, my daughter dropped a glob of her solvent-based polish onto the plate. Shortly after, the paint began to bubble and “ate” through the plate. I looked in dismay at the hole in the plate and decided to test all of her other “kid” polishes on the foam. Within minutes, ALL of the solvent-based polishes began to bubble and eventually left big holes in the plate (Click to see plate). From that day on, I decided that any flammable substance that could eat through foam was unacceptable for my children’s fingernails, which would inevitably end up in their mouths.

My quest was on, and Piggy Paint™ was born. As you may have guessed, our polish is NOT flammable and sits beautifully on the unaffected foam. We hope you enjoy this water-based polish that is specially formulated of natural ingredients. Finally, a kid-friendly polish without the accompanying drawbacks of traditional polishes. It is free of formaldehyde, toluene, phthalates, biphenyl A, ethyl acetate and acetone… and made in the USA!

My daughter was very excited when our Piggy Paint arrived in the mail. So excited I guess that she decided she didn’t need to wait for me to help her paint her nails. So how long would you say a normal bottle of nail polish should last? A couple months or more? I guess that would be the case if you didn’t use the nail polish to decorate your head board. (Mom shakes her head), yes my daughter decided that not only did her headboard need some decoration but did you know My Little Ponies like nail polish as well? And they don’t stick to just painting their nails it seems they use it as body paint as well. (Mom now sighs). So the cute pink and glow in the dark nail polish we received didn’t make it onto my daughters nails, but occasionally you will see a little hint of the glow in the dark when you turn off the lights.

So I ordered another bottle of the nail polish so I could actually review the product, oh what a joy to have kids. I ordered Girls Rule! Bright Shimmery Purple Nail Polish. This time when it came in I scooped it up and put it away until we had a chance to paint her nails. When we did get around to painting her nails I immediately noticed there was no odor to the nail polish which follows in line with Melanie’s story above. The second thing I noticed was how easy it went on, very smooth. We totally LOVED the color, so many times you purchase something and the color just doesn’t turn out as well as it looked in the bottle. In this case I think I liked the color even better out of the bottle. The nail polish dries fast and stays on longer then your normal nail polish
