This weekend while Daddy was on soccer duty Honey and I attended Home Fashion Workshop at our local Havertys. Trust me I need all the help I can get when it comes to decorating. We have a beautiful house but it is not decorated like I know it could be. Even though I’m creative it obviously does not include decorating. The topic of the Home Fashion Workshop was how to put different pieces together to create the look you are going for. Many of the items we saw during the workshop were from Havertys Ala Carte collection.
When Honey and I arrived we were greeted by several different Havertys employees. They were all fun to talk with and we even found out we had a lot of things in common with a few of them. They had a nice spread of snack foods (in case you came hungry) to dine on while we waited for everyone to arrive. The workshop we attended on Saturday had one of the biggest turns outs which was about 25-30 people. This was surprising considering Saturday may just have been the most beautiful South Florida day this year.
Before we sat down for the Home Fashion Workshop, Honey and I browsed all the furniture and accessories commenting on what each of us liked. Honey is a great shopper and really gets into what she is doing, she showed me what she liked, told me why she liked it and asked if I agreed. In fact she even took a few photos (a blogger in training!)
We found some great pieces, some of which (the beach items) would look awesome in my bedroom. I also really loved the red chair, we need a little color to “pop” in our living area. I also couldn’t take my eyes of the cute chest with the beautiful painting. Not sure if I have any place for this item (maybe it would replace a current piece), but I just thought it was beautiful.
Honey paid close attention. I thought she would want to play on the iPad while the presentation was going on but she did not. Instead she sat next to me and listened and even commented on some of the pieces. The Home Fashion Workshop was presented by two different associates, a sales person and designer. They showed us how you don’t have to purchase one collection of matching furniture. Sometimes it is better to select one “wow” piece and build a beautiful setting around it. In the photo above the piece was the weathered octagon table. Suitable for a corner in your home, under the stair case, or wherever you see fit. She paired it with a beautiful vase of flowers (my kind, look real right down to the water but totally fake). I also really love the books on the table giving it a homey look.
We were presented with a few different rooms in the house and how you could mix and match pieces from each room. There was no “this is bedroom furniture” or “this is only for the living room”. In fact it is better to purchase neutral pieces of larger furniture like a sofa or chair and change out your look over time with pillows, accessories, or rugs. I was surprised at some of the pieces of furniture and their dual uses. A beautiful glass door cabinet that would look great in your bedroom and serve as a shoe rack (neat idea). Or a square stool that when pieced together with four could create a beautiful table, yet slide apart to offer additional seating.
The Home Fashion Workshop was very informative and we got some great ideas on how to decorate our own home. The sales people are knowledgeable and can work with you to create the perfect look for your home. There are still several Home Fashion Workshops at Havertys you can attend.
