Do you remember when you were young and received those toy, usually constructed from some type of cardboard, kaleidoscopes? I use to love them. They were the ones that had the little fragments of colors in the bottom so when you twisted and twirled the end you would see all these bright colors. I absolutely LOVE rainbows and use to love to watch all the colors twist and fall.
Kaleidoscopes To You is bringing back that fascination to the children of today. My children did not really know what a kaleidoscope was when I told them one was coming for us to review. I tried to explain it but it is just one of those things that you can’t really put into words.
When the Kaleidoscope arrived, I found that it was beautiful. I mean the wood and polish just make it very stunning. I actually plan on putting it up in our living room. It comes with a little base and will look very nice on top of our television and is sure to start conversations with company (if we ever have any!).
In my mind when I explained the kaleidoscope to my children I was thinking of the toy of my past with the little colorful fragment and I asked my daughter when she looked through it if she saw lots of colors. She said no, but I see Buddy and laughed! So I asked to look through it. I guess it goes to show you what I know about kaleidoscopes because this one had mirrors. I looked through it and starring back at me were tons of a tiny little Buddy which was so very worth a chuckle! It took my husband a while to “see” the tiny people and he was thinking we were quite crazy until he finally managed to focus on them.
Have you ever wondered where a kaleidoscope gets it geometrical shape?
The image is created by the geometry of the mirrors; often called the mirror system of the kaleidoscope. A 2 mirror system uses a solid black surface for the triangular barrel of the kaleidoscope. This creates a single round mandala image. The degree of the angle of the mirrors determines how many points to the star there are. A 3 mirror creates a full quilt of color; and again, the angle of the mirrors can change the geometry of the mirrors. Unique mirror systems have used even more mirrors and there have been circular mirror systems where the mirror is shaped like a tube.
