Do you have that appliance that you take for granted? The one that when it is gone you realize how much you actually used it? For us that appliance is our toaster oven. The toaster oven has a very special place in our house. Let me explain…when my husband and I were just starting out, getting ready to have our first little one and knew that our one bedroom apartment was not going to cut it we went in search of a new home. After several different places we came upon the cutest little two bedroom home that just felt right. It was the perfect distance from work, had hardwood floors and a big back yard. What it didn’t have was a stove. Yep the owner had not yet put a stove or refrigerator into the home. In order to keep our payments at what we could afford, a whopping $450 a month, we told him we would put in our own refrigerator and stove. Sadly enough we found a refrigerator but never did find a stove. For about 8 months we made dinners using our electric skillet, electric grill, microwave, and toaster oven. Amazingly we probably eat better during those days then we do now. I would still make muffins in my toaster, steak on the grill and vegetables in the microwave.
When my mother in law moved in a couple of years ago she brought with her a toaster oven. We forgot how much we used one until we had one again. When she moved out this summer we knew we had to have another. The toaster oven is used mostly by my oldest son. He cooks his corn dogs and warms up chicken nuggets often with it. We were excited to get the chance to review a toaster oven from Kalorik.
This is a 15-liter toaster oven and the perfect size to warm up leftovers such as a slice of pizza and great for the kids to bake something small. What I love about toaster ovens is that because of their size you are only heating a small space instead of a large oven when you only have something small to cook. We use our toaster oven often to cook pre-made biscuits. Paired with the new Land O’ Lakes Cinnamon Sugar Butter, yum they make for a delicious addition to a breakfast meal.
With its spacious 15-liter capacity, this convenient toaster oven makes it easy to keep up with the demands of any busy household. Its user-friendly control panel offers three dials for setting the heat, time, and function. The oven’s temperature can be adjusted up to 450 degrees F, and its 30-minute timer shuts the unit off automatically after the elapsed time or can be set to the “stay-on” position. Use the toaster oven for anything from toasting up to four slices of bread at breakfast time to broiling a chicken, baking a casserole, or even a 9-inch pizza for dinner. Other highlights include toast-shade control from light to dark, a stainless-steel control panel and heating elements, black painted housing, a nonstick interior, an “on” indicator light, and a heat-resistant glass door for viewing the cooking process at a glance. Accessories include a broiling pan, broiling rack, a wire rack, and a slide-out crumb tray. The 1500-watt toaster oven measures 15-3/4 by 12 by 9-1/4 inches.
As mentioned above our toaster oven came with a broiling pan and broiling rack. We use both of these often when using our toaster oven. In fact the broiling rack is already showing its use.
I love the crumb tray because it makes clean up a lot easier. Just pop it out, run it under the water, wipe it off a little and your toaster oven is as good as new. Ok yeah you may have to clean the inside and the glass but really nothing is worse then trying to clean the bottom of any type of oven.
You have three knobs to operate your toaster oven. The first is pretty simple it is your temperature knob, so you can set your oven to whatever temperature your food requires. The second knob is my favorite knob and not an option I’ve had with any other toaster oven. It allows you to distribute the heat to either the top of the oven, the bottom, or both. This is really good for my son and I as we DO NOT like burnt food at all. So when we cook our biscuits we will move the wire tray to the very bottom and distribute the heat to the top. This will cook the biscuit without giving us a very hard crust on the bottom of our biscuits. The bottom knob is your timer. You have the option of leaving it on without any timer option, or using the timer up to 30 minutes.
