Lauren Alaina, runner up in American Idol’s 2011 season released her first album on October 11th. I use to watch American Idol religiously but in the past couple of years found myself so far behind sometimes I just stopped watching. This past season was my first season back since Carrie Underwood won. When it comes to music I like all sorts, at times I’ve been into nothing but main stream, sometimes hard core country, and other times some Norah Jones.
When I first saw Lauren Alaina’s audition I thought “Man this girl can sing”. It amazes me how such young people can have such big talents with out years of training and experience. It was Lauren’s audition that perked my interest and got me back to watching the show. At the beginning of the show I didn’t feel we were seeing the heart and soul and all that Lauren had to offer. I kept waiting for that big moment, when she would awe us. As the show progressed Lauren began to blossom with the help of the judges in their continuing effort to draw her from her shell and push her higher and higher.
Well let me just say, the girl is out of her shell and is awing us! I received my copy of Wildflower to review and I absolutely love it! I still can not believe that the girl behind the amazing and powerful voice is only 16. The talent and range that Lauren has is beautiful and utterly amazing. Singing has always been one of those things that I wish I could do, I’m on the total end of the spectrum when it comes to any singing talent, I’m not even close to being good enough for karaoke.
Wildflower is a collection of songs that show off Lauren’s voice and the song selection is perfect for a 16 year old girl. The songs are fun and talk about young love. My favorite song on the CD is “The Locket”. The story behind the song and the tune, the range, is just perfect!
‘The Locket’ (Mallary Hope)
“’The Locket’ will make you cry every time you hear it. The storyline reminds me of ‘The Notebook.’ It has this beautiful story. You don’t know until the end of the song who is telling the story, but it’s a granddaughter talking to her grandmother. She is talking about all of these memories her grandmother told her throughout her life. The grandmother has Alzheimer’s and she is starting to forget things. The granddaughter is reading out of her diary to her the things that have happened to her throughout her life. It’s a beautiful story. I cried like a baby the first time I heard it; I still cry every time I hear it. It’s got one of the most beautiful melodies I’ve ever heard, just the arrangement of the song. The words are so powerful. It’s the type of song that is super simple but it really touches your heart. You feel like you are part of the story, even though you are not.”
The album is full of fun and sassy songs such as Georgia Peaches and Growing Her Wings. I caught a glimpse of my 5 year old daughter rocking to the fun tune of “Georgia Peaches”
