You might remember my teaser post regarding my Kmart Holiday Shopping Spree. I was tasked with purchasing some fun holiday items to spruce up the Shibley house. I am very excited since this is the first Christmas my family will be coming to my home. I’m not quite the decorator my mother is she is AWESOME her home is always so homey and fun. However I do my best and am still excited about my goodies. Just to give you a recap here are the new decorations I was adding into my collection.
This of course is just a small amount to add to my growing collection. So let me give you a tour of our decorations at the Shibley home. First lets start with the most important item, the Christmas tree. I am a pre-lit fake tree kinda girl. I love my tree all ready strung with lights so that all I have to do is fix the branches and plug-in. You will find NO Christmas tree like mine, that is because of the collection of unique ornaments. When I was young my grandmother would send me an ornament each year. When I left home my mother packed the ornaments in a box and they became the first ornaments on my own Christmas tree. Now that I have my own children my mother gives each of them an ornament as well. When they too leave home I will do the same thing. Our first layer is our unique ornaments. We then add some bulbs always in gold and maroon. I have a collection of snowflakes that we add next followed by real candy canes. When that is all done I add a few bows gold and maroon like the bulbs and then the last step is a very small amount of tinsel. When I say small I mean we usually put it on one piece at a time. The end results…..
The tree is in a new spot this year residing in our living room. It use to decorate our family room however we turned that into an exercise room (as you will see in the next photo). As you enter our home you first step into a foyer area. Our two elves we purchased at Kmart are there to greet you at the door. The table is usually decorated the same each year, however this year we added a candy dish and some candlestick lights to greet our visitors with a sweet treat. The basic of pine cones is filled with a mixture of cinnamon scented cones and some handpicked pine cones from our very own yard.
One of the neat things about our home is we have these cute little cubby holes built into the walls in our hallways. Our cute Santa is keeping watch over the boys (the cubby is right out side of their rooms) to make sure they remain on the nice list. This is a new display for us this year, I lost what usually went into this space when my mother-in-law moved out. I really love how it turned out.
We also have a cubby hole right outside Honey’s room and one as you enter into our living room. I like to add something fun for Honey and she loves the story telling Santa. So we sat Santa up next to a new Christmas tree for the occasion. In the cubby hole into our living room we have more of an elegant display of flameless candles I received last year around the holidays. I love the candles because they are on a timer and come on each night by themselves and turn off as well.
Since we just walked through our living room entrance lets finish up the decorations in the living room. The stockings are in a brand new spot this year. They HAVE to be near the tree and since we moved the tree…well we had to move the stockings. I absolutely LOVE where my husband hung them so appropriate. I added a little holly and I think it turned out beautifully. We have a large 55″ TV with cabinets on either side. Despite my husbands request to leave his “normal” every day items on the TV I took them down and replaced them with the usual decorations. This year I added a color changing snowman that I must have bought after Christmas last year (it was a nice surprise I don’t remember purchasing) and three larger nutcrackers to my small collection.
We have not yet showcased all our decorations we purchased at Kmart so as we leave the living room to head to the dining room I have to show you the cute gingerbread house Honey and I made. If you read my earlier post you know this is our Christmas tradition.
Now each year we decorate our corner cabinet into a Christmas village. I purchased my village many many years ago, about 18 if I had to guess. This year I was so excited to add a few pieces. When Honey and I went on our #KmartHoliday shopping spree we purchased a toy store, some new villagers, and trees. I absolutely LOVE the addition of the trees. For the first time we also added snow which we will probably do from now on if we are able to find the kind we purchased.
This is a close up of our village, below is from afar so you can get the effect of what it is on. I’ve also included a photo of the beautiful table centerpiece we purchased this year. It too has flameless candles. Last by certainly not least another new edition of lights strung throughout the kitchen to give the room a beautiful holiday glow.
So there you have it a tour of the Shibley Smiles Homey Holiday Heaven with many new editions to our classic Christmas decorations. Each year it will continue to grow and I’m excited to see what steals I kind find AFTER Christmas at Kmart this year!
