South Florida Sun Showers Are the Best

It sure has been a very rainy season here in South Florida. Just a few days ago I posted on Facebook how it was freaky dark outside. It was 6:30 in the evening and the sky just got darker and darker and it was still outside. Shortly after the wind began and the clouds opened up. We have also been seeing quite a lot of sun showers. On the way home yesterday from work I was pulling out of the shopping center and turned left to a long row of traffic to look up and see the most beautiful rainbow  … [Read more...]

Weekend of Water and Fun at Aquatica and Sea World

Last weekend Shibley Smiles was invited, with quite a few other bloggers, to a special event at SeaWorld Orlando, in honor of the new attraction Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin. Since we live in South Florida, about two and a half hours away, we decided to make a mini vacation out of the outing and spent two nights at Residence Inn Orlando at SeaWorld. This article is sponsored by Goodies Co. SIGN UP TODAY USE the PROMO CODE: BLOGVIP I will forever remember the day that my daughter at the age of six said, "How will I know if I like it, if I don't try it?" Talk about something every mother longs to hear. My daughter is forever wanting to try everything. She has a wide range of likes but she also has dislikes. She is not much of a chip, cracker, kinda gal. She would take a nice juicy apple, or even better a bowl of green beans over the … [Read more...]

My Beef With Reading Plus in Our School System

Reading Plus for School I'm going to start out by saying my issue is not with the Reading Plus program and its educational value. My issue is with how our Florida schools are using it and more specifically grading it, our at least our school here in my local area. This year my son's middle school started using the Reading Plus system. The system's purpose, of course, is to increase fluency in reading among other things. I took this from their site... The Reading Plus® system has achieved … [Read more...]

Our Fair Filled Saturday Afternoon

Last year when the fair was in town Honey wanted to go. However we had just come back from a vacation in Orlando and it was just not something I felt we could splurge on so I promised instead to take her this year. As soon as the flyers went out and advanced tickets went on sale for the South Florida Fair I purchased them. We decided to skip the first weekend (which was last weekend) and instead going this past weekend. Unfortunately my oldest son has not been feeling well for about a month. … [Read more...]

An Eventful Day at the Beach

I love the beach I really do. I would think my header expresses that well. However as much as I love the beach I'm not a huge fan of the ocean. I prefer the cool blue, see what I'm swimming in, pool. I will admit that I do get in the ocean when I do go to the beach. I do the "stingray shuffle" and am always leery about the water. My children have no fear they splish splash and jump and have a great time. This weekend my daughter was staying with her grandmother enjoying a hot Saturday at the … [Read more...]

This post brought to you by VISIT FLORIDA. All opinions are 100% mine. Living in Florida maybe I'm a little bias but I think it is a great place to vacation. There is so much to do no matter what part of Florida you visit. I've visited the north up in Pensacola, Central in Orlando, lived on the west coast near Tampa Bay and now reside in South Florida. Each area of Florida is as different as day and night. Whether you come in the winter with the snow birds or in the summer when the kids … [Read more...]

Florida Orange Juice Part of Our Morning Routine

This post brought to you by Florida Orange Juice. All opinions are 100% mine.   I am not a routine follower by any means. I don't do anything the same each day, from getting ready in the morning to what I eat. My husband is the total opposite. He is a very organized and structured person. You could almost set your clock on his routine. One thing he does everyone morning is prepare the same breakfast and take some time to check out the news on the computer. His breakfast always … [Read more...]

What Does FCAT Stand For?

1. FCAT Stands for "Florida Comprehension Achievement Test" 2.
