I can’t believe summer is already half way over. Summer didn’t quite go as planned. My daughter was excited about summer camp but after a week she decided she prefers to stay home with her brothers. My oldest son who graduated from high school in May got his first job and is loving it. Our weekends are spent outside enjoying the pool, cooking out, and having a great time with family.
I was so into the “summer” mode that I was surprised when I got a call from the school about the bus transportation for the upcoming school year. Really? We have to think about school already? I know that my son shares my feelings, buy my daughter has a whole different attitude. While she has enjoyed the freedom of summer to get up late and do what she wants she really misses school. She misses her girlfriends, her teachers, and yes she misses school work. She thrives on knowledge.
5 Back to School Preparation Tips
Back to school supplies: I’ve been buying school supplies for 17 years. Here is what I’ve learned. While tax holiday is a nice way to save it is not worth the crowds. Waiting until the last couple weeks before school is going to leave you with gaps in your list. Honey and I hit the stores early this year and managed to find everything on her back to school supplies list.
Adjust sleeping habits: If your kids are anything like mine they started to go to be later and get up later throwing them completely off schedule. Since high school starts at 7:30 in the morning my son has to get out of bed between 6-6:30. About 3 weeks before school starts try to have your children start getting up earlier. If you start soon enough you can do it gradually so it is not such a shock to their system.
Doctor visits: Make sure your children are up to date on their shots (if you do the shot thing) as well as schedule their yearly physical if they need a sports physical for school. This way you won’t have to worry about trying to schedule it during the school day.
Lunch plans: Start planning out what your child would like to take for lunch and look for deals on non-perishable products and stock up. Capri Sun is a great addition to a packed lunch with several different options like:
- Capri Sun Juice Drink: With 35% less sugar than other leading juice drinks*, plus no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives, it’s still the fave of moms and kids alike.
- Capri Sun 100% Juice**: An all-natural option with 1 1/2 servings of fruit in every pouch.
- Capri Sun Super V: a Fruit and Vegetable Juice Drink: A good source of vitamins A, C, E with one combined serving of fruits and vegetables in every pouch***
- Capri Sun Roarin’ Waters Flavored Water Beverage: Lightly fruit-flavored water beverage is a delicious choice for moms who want a low-calorie way to help for – kids -stay hydrated.
Take stock of the closet: Kids grow like a weed so now is the time to take stock of what is in the closet and what they will need for the upcoming school year. My daughter is required to wear uniforms which makes shopping easy. Each year we purchase shirts and shorts per the school dress code (and a few extra for good measure).
Are you ready for the new school year?

We start school at the end of the month. Reading this has reminded about getting my son in for his shots. Thank you :). I too try and start getting my son to bed early and up early about 2 weeks before school starts and this does help out.

School starts here in just 4 days. We’re ready as of today when we picked up the last of the supplies needed, at least until the teachers say otherwise. I’ve got a senior and a sophomore this year. Its hard to believe my mom school years are almost over.

I allways liked picking up mext years supplies whn they went on sale… you can get most or not all by just looking for the next grade up from the list they give out. I used to do that and save tons.

I totally agree on the supply shopping…it is not worth it to wait til so late…the sales run out in most stores and then you are skipping all over town to get the things that go out of stock so early. Not worth the few dollars you save by waiting for the big sales.
My daughter is the same as Honey…she likes her freedom for summer but misses the social stuff and even the school setting, teachers, etc.

School doesn’t start here until September 9th. We received the supply lists before school ended though and I have been picking items up almost every week.
