Spring in South Florida is, in my opinion, the best season. The chill in the air that accompanies winter has retreated leaving us with a warm temperatures and a spring breeze. Spring means shorts, tank tops, and flip-flops. It is also the best time of year to get outside and play with your children.
5 Fun Spring Time Activities
Go on a Treasure Hunt : This has always been one my children’s favorite games and moving it outdoors makes it more challenging. This game will take a little preparation on your part but the kids will have a blast. Simply pick your treasure spot and work backwards with clues. Hide all the clues and watch your child’s delight as they race from clue to clue to find the treasure. Your treasure can be anything from a small trinket, money, or toy.
Nature Trail : See if you can find a local nature trail and get the family together for a little outdoor hiking. Pack a lunch and refreshments and take your time looking at all the sites. This is especially fun to do with young kids who delight in the little things like butterflies and flowers.
Fly a Kite : Go fly a kite, literally! With the spring breeze in the air it is the perfect time to show your kids how to fly a kite. If your neighborhood does not have the room for kite flying head down to your local park and enjoy the next fun activity on the list.
Visit a Local Park : Slides and swings may be a child’s playground but that doesn’t mean the adults can’t join in. You are never to young to swing! My daughter always enjoyed pushing me on the swing just as much as she enjoyed swinging herself. The kids will enjoy some fresh air and great exercise.
Blow Bubbles : Nothing is more precious then the smile on your child’s face as they chase a bubble rising into the spring air. Bubbles are an inexpensive and easy way to enjoy the outdoors with your children. Take turns blowing bubbles and catching them. These days there is so many different types of bubbles from a simple wand to a bubble blowing machine, they are sure to blow you away!
Finding time to spend with your kids any season of the year is a reward worth it’s weight in gold. The laundry, house cleaning, and other chores can all be handle in the dark hours of the day. Enjoy the sunlight and beautiful springtime in South Florida with your children!
