A Better World is a Facebook game like no other. As parents we know that games and television these days are not like they were when we were young when it was exciting to get your frog across traffic and a log ridden pond in “Frogger”, or Sunday morning was filled with little blue “Smurfs”. With all the violence and “stupidity” (have you seen some of these cartoons?) it both television and games it is hard to come across a wholesome value teaching game for your children.
A Better World was created by ToonUps, a digital entertainment company that has focused on developing digital content that encourages a positive outlook and altruistic behavior for more than a decade. ToonUps hopes A Better World’s original approach could usher in a new genre of “do good gaming.” Research shows that being encouraged to think about things they are thankful for and doing activities that provide encouragement to others improves their
mental, emotional and spiritual well being.
My daughter and I spent some time playing A Better Wold this evening. She enjoyed helping me choose my hairstyle and clothing. This is the first step when you start the game.
The game offers more than 15 locations for community members to explore, including the:
•Department of Do Good – A place you can share real world good deeds you’ve performed and see what other members of the community have done
•Gratitude Grotto – A charming area where you can reveal what you are thankful for and express your support for messages left by others
•Sanctuary of Hope – A building where you can communicate your hopes and dreams and send encouragement to other players
•Arcade – A play area with uplifting mini-games to enjoy alone or with friends
•A new feature is the Better Pets Pet Shop, filled with adorable puppies, cute kittens or even a magical unicorn
My daughter LOVED the Better Pets Pet Shop, of course this is from the girl that has already told me several times she wants to be a veterinarian. Though the unicorn is cool she is more of a realistic pet lover. She really enjoys games in which she can take care of pets.
Overall the game is an extremely positive experience. It encourages you to send positive notes and thoughts to friends and family. The mini games are fun and contain positive messages. We pad Three Cycle which is themed around recycling. You really can’t go wrong encouraging your children to play A Better World
You can visit A Better World on Facebook as well as follow ToonUps and twitter. If you would like to see the game in action before you decide to play, here is a quick trailer for your viewing pleasure.
