Have you ever visited the zoo and thought how cool would it be to get close and personal with the animals? I big hug from a chimpanzee, swim with the turtles, or take a selfie with a giraffe. The Palm Beach Zoo is giving patrons such an opportunity with some of the animals that call the zoo their home.
My son, his girlfriend, my daughter, and I visited the Palm Beach Zoo recently for a day of animal watching. The weather was perfect for a walk through the zoo and we were excited to take part in one of the new Animal Experiences offered at The Palm Beach Zoo.
Animal Experiences @ The Palm Beach Zoo
I will admit that our first choice was the Koala Experience, however they fill up fast and our visit was only planned a week in advance. So instead we participated in the Aldabra Tortoise Experience. The animal experience is a chance for you to get up close and personal with the animals, snapping a selfie, feeding them, petting them and more.
My daughter is feeding Noto the oldest tortoise the zoo as at this time. The zookeeper gave us sticks with raw sweet potatoes that we each got the chance to feed the tortoise. At the same time the zoo keeper was informing us of all kinds of interesting facts about the tortoise.
Enter into the exhibit of our three gentle giants in this magical behind-the-scenes experience! Our keeper staff will navigate you through a back area and into the Aldabra Tortoise yard where you will have the opportunity to feed and bathe (weather permitting) our happy animal ambassadors. Learn more about conservation and what you can do to further act on behalf of wildlife and the natural world! While you’re in the yard, keep a look out for other wildlife found in this multi-species exhibit!
In addition to the tortoise there was an older kangaroo that was also lounging around. It was a pretty fun experience to feed and pet a kangaroo.
While we were enjoying our experience a photographer was taking photos because with the purchase of your experience you receive one free photo of your choosing.
One thing I found interesting was that the tortoise loves to have their shell scratched. My misconception that it being a hard shell they wouldn’t feel anything was very wrong. The zookeeper told us one of the things they love the most is being brushed.
I’ve been to the Palm Beach Zoo several times over the years. I remember taking my boys when they were young. I love to see the zoo adding new features such as the animal experience. It helps keep things fresh and people coming back again and again. I also noticed while we were there, they have an overnight experience which sounded very intriguing.
We took a lot of photos while we were there and I will be sharing some in future post, I wanted to dedicate this one to the amazing Animal Experience that The Palm Beach Zoo offers.
We were provided with four tickets to the zoo including the animal experience.
