Mention the word "crafts" with my daughter around and you better be willing to deliver! My daughter gets her love of creativity from me. As a child I was always drawing, coloring, and creating. As an adult I haven't stopped. In fact Shibley Smiles was born not because I wanted to share my stories, not because I wanted to earn an extra income. No Shibley Smiles was created because I wanted to design! Once a digital scrapbook designer I missed being creative. This weekend I decided I wanted to introduce Honey to scrapbooking, the old fashion way. So we came up with a few projects we wanted to create.
- A scrapbooking page displaying her favorite summer vacation
- An After School "To Do List"
- A fun cootie catcher (to enjoy with her friends when she returns to school)
These were all easy projects and ones Honey could take charge of herself with just a little help with me. First we got our supplies together. Believe it or not most of these supplies I've had for almost 20 years. Seriously the glitter, puffy paints, scissors were all bought when I was about 18-20 living on my own and into crafts.
There are really no instructions when it comes to scrapbooking. It is letting your imagination and creativity take shape. Honey LOVED the bright colors of the AstroBrights paper, while I love the quality. A much better texture then construction paper, very sleek yet thick which is great for projects like our scrapbooking. Honey decided to create a scrapbook page centered around one of her favorite vacations. Our trip to the Hilton Garden Inn and Sea World. While my daughter is creative she is also very uniformed so it was a challenge for her to break out from everything being perfectly aligned. She loves lines and patterns. We had a great time creating our page and the AstroBrights papers made a brilliant background.
Honey also loves charts and logs, she gets that from me too. So we decided to expand our creativity a little further and created a fun "To Do List". Just because school will be starting soon doesn't mean there aren't things that need to be done. Our beds still need to be made each day, our rooms cleaned, and to make it fun we added reading, one of my daughters favorite things to do. I printed the lines on the AstroBright paper with the printer and then Honey selected the photos she wanted for her chart.
Probably the best craft of all was creating a "Cootie Catcher"! Do you remember these when you were young? I love introducing my daughter to things I use to do or have when I was young. She absolutely loves this and is constantly asking everyone to participate. She helped out with the fortunes and together we folded, decorated, and enjoyed our new found craft. She can't wait to take it back-to-school to show her friends.
We had a great time finding creative ways to use our AstroBrights papers. Right now AstroBrights has a few exciting things going on. You have the chance to support your local elementary school by entering the "Give a Brighter Year" sweepstakes. You can win a cash prize and school supplies valued at $30,000 for the school of your choice.

that’s the cutest cootie catcher I’ve ever seen – we didn’t have a name for them growing up, but we liked to make them and play with them!!!
