Today is the last day before the kids go back to school. Yesterday the kids asked what we were going to do today to celebrate the last day. We already had a morning of bowling planned so that kicked off the day. it was followed by some last minute school shopping. Have I mentioned how I hate shopping the day before an event? For example I don’t want to shop on Christmas Eve, the day before Halloween, and the day before school. The stores were packed! The boys were also hoping to get their hair cut but when I walked in a guy that had been waiting awhile was told there were 9 people a head of him. We promptly walked out.
That is why I would much prefer to do my shopping online if I can. I have some key stores I go to when shopping online and one of them is Walmart. My oldest son turned 17 this year and we decided it was time for him to have his own laptop. Ok, I decided I needed him to have his own laptop so he wouldn’t tie up mine. With college looming in the near future, I hope, I wanted something that was affordable yet practical for him. This means he didn’t need the top of the line trillion GB and faster than the speed of sound laptop. He just needs something that he can write essays on, surf the net for research, and in his free time listen to a little music and play a few games.
Toshiba C55t A5123
This is very affordable at only $349 online at Walmart.com.
Key Features of the Toshiba C55t A5123
- Intel Celeron N2820 processor 2.39GHz, 1MB Cache

The laptop is very sturdy, a little bulkier than we are use to but definitely sturdy. My son is use to Windows 8.1 since it is on a desktop we own so he was very familiar with the set up. After we got all logged in my son spent some time customizing it. He loved the fact that he didn’t have to share the laptop with his brother’s and sisters. The computer is quick and easy to navigate and will be great when he starts bringing home assignments from school.
Our next step was seeing about getting some software for his computer. He is taking a third year of Comp Tech which requires a photo editing software and we also need to make sure he has Microsoft Word so he can write his essays. Once that was done he told me while he didn’t mind using the built in mouse he really wanted a wireless mouse as it is more comfortable when working. Not a problem I was able to pick that up at Walmart too.
If you are looking for a good deal on laptops for your son or daughter this back to school season I encourage you to check out the great deals at Walmart.

Our school gives out laptops to all the students for the year which is so nice for us. But I do like buying electronics at Walmart, not only for their excellent prices but also their great replacement plans!

We buy computers every two years it seems. Our boys both have their own laptops that we’ve gotten from Walmart (since they are in online school they kind of needed it.) Del and I’s laptops though have come from Best Buy. I’m honestly considering going to a Mac computer with my next laptop purchase?
This looks like a great computer to get him rolling. He can always upgrade on his own if he desires. I hope that college is in his future too.

My son wants a laptop so bad and in truth he needs one for school, this sounds like a great one. I love reading about computers before I buy them.

I’m still trying to get used to windows 8, I know you can remove some of the necessary tiles, I just hate how everything runs in the background, I feel like that slows and wears down on the computer more.

I think this is a great setup for anyone, not just a student. I know my kids would love it. I do have to agree about the wireless mouse. Much easier to use.

I agree with you son that a wireless mouse makes using a laptop much easier. Thanks mom!

As the kids age, it becomes more and more important that they have access to the technology they need to be successful. The laptop is priced very reasonably, as I would expect from Walmart. I am not in the market right now, but I’ll be shopping at Walmart when I am.
