My husband has NEVER been a fan of bunk beds. However he is not a fan of letting the kids have bikes, or letting them go further then 6 feet from the porch, or really not a fan of letting them do much more then breathe. Ok so maybe I’m being a little dramatic. The truth is my husband is pretty over protective. He has never really liked the thought of any of his kids on the top of a bunk bed. He gets pictures of superman flying through the air, or monkeys hanging from the ceiling fan.
Despite his reluctance to them our boys did indeed have bunk beds at one time. Not the futon bunk bed that I really like but your normal two twin beds. I LOVED them, and painted them blue and decorated their room. At the time I believe the boys were 2 and 5.
Now that my boys are older almost 14 and 11, bunk beds are WAY to small for them even if you got a twin over full bunk bed at their age I just don’t think it would fit their personalities. Actually very soon the boys will be FINALLY after so many years be getting their very own room. It will be fun to decorate them both.
Now my daughter is 5 and I really think a bunk bed for her would be fun and add character to her room. Maybe a cute pink and green colored bed. I would love to get her one with the twin on top and the desk underneath. I really think they can be a space saver. Her room right now is so crowded with a twin bed, shelf, desk, kitchenette, and TV stand. One thing I admit I don’t care of is bunkie boards. They are a necessary evil with bunk beds. I just find that a board under your mattress is not nearly as comfortable as a box spring. However right now my daughter has a platform bed which isn’t much different.
The only thing I will give to my husband on this is Honey rarely sleeps in her bed. We often have to search for her in the morning if she hasn’t ended up in our bed. We usually find her curled up deep in the covers in her grandmother’s room or at the foot of one of her brother’s bed. So I can see it might be nerve wracking thinking of her getting down the bed each night in the dark.
How about you? Do you like bunk beds? At what age do you think bunk beds are too young?

I LOVE bunk beds. My sister and I had them for years. Actually her children use our old bunk beds now. As for what age is appropriate, that’s a tough one. My sister’s little one who is 6 fell from the top bunk last summer and broke her collar bone, poor thing. She’s so tiny she slid under the bar through the night. Tough call. I enjoyed them when I was a child though. If you get a chance swing by 2 Against 1 , and link up to the TGIF blog hop (Friday). Happy Friday! (Almost)

My kids hated their bunk beds. The bottom child could feel the top child roll. The top child could only think of spiders. Then when my second youngest started to climb I’d put the ladder on the top bed and forget I put it up there. Not to mention how quickly the kids broke the ceiling fan. I took them apart and made twin beds. Not a fan.

Our boys had bunk beds at 2 and 5, but when we moved, we took them apart and put one in each room. Needless to say, we lostthe hardwear to put them back together. About a month ago, they got together and decided that they wanted to share a room and have a play room, so we bought new bunk beds. They love them, at 11 and 8 as much as they did at 2 and 5.

Sabreena got bunk beds when she was 5, she was an only child then. When it was time to put Shaun in a big boy bed we separated them and they’ve never been back together since. I wish we could put them back together for Shaun.
