I’m a big fan of recycling. It’s an easy thing I can do to help the environment and my community by sending less garbage to the landfill. I’m excited that now I, and many other residents of Southern Florida, can earn rewards for recycling and taking other green actions!
Communities across the country have made a commitment to be cleaner and greener by partnering with Recyclebank, the company that inspires and rewards smarter, everyday choices for a more sustainable future. In Broward County alone, Lauderdale Lakes, Davie, Coconut Creek, Margate, Tamarac, Sunrise, Hollywood, and now Cooper City, which launched on January 15, are working with Recyclebank to encourage residents to recycle more and recycle right.
Here’s how it works:
- If you live in one of the towns mentioned above, once registered at recyclebank.com, you can start earning points based on the amount of recyclables collected in your neighborhood.
- You can also earn points by participating in online activities like quizzes about sustainability or playing games that show how to properly dispose of those hard-to-recycle items. There are also some great tips on making your life easier and healthier, like how to pack a green lunch for your kids.
- Once you’ve accumulated some points, you can use those points to “shop” on Recyclebank.com for discounts and deals on some of your favorite clothing brands, home goods, and magazine subscriptions.
- You can also use your points to shop in Recyclebank’s online store OneTwine which features products, hand-selected for their sustainability (i.e. less packaging, less toxins) making them better for your family and your wallet.
Broward County is a wonderful place to live. With Recyclebank, we can now get rewarded for doing our part to keep our community beautiful, safe and green (and save a little money while we’re at it)!
What do you do in terms of recycling?

I’ll have to see if this is available in my area, how cool!

I love rewards programs like this. I hope they come to Iowa.
Kait says
That’s a really cool program. It’d be a great idea for local schools in the area to help get their families involved too.
Anne - Mommy Has to Work says
We recycle everything we can! I’d love to get a compost going again.
Raijean says
This is so cool, they do it here in Illinois as well. We make it a point to recycle now.
Liz Mays says
I have to take all my recycling to a center in town. It’s kind of a pain, but I do it anyhow. Love the reward option.
Crystal says
What a great idea! I sort my trash and make sure the recyclables get recycled. I save the aluminum to take in myself because the pay-out is the highest for that.

This program sounds wonderful and like something that could really benefit our community here in Las Vegas. We recycle as much as we possibly can including cardboard food boxes, cans, plastic containers and bottles, and more!
