This Saturday night was Family Fun Night at the Shibley’s. Our fun night began with a trip to our local Walmart to pick up some classic movie snacks and the recently released Diary of a Wimpy Kid from Redbox.
The kids and I grabbed some M&M’s. Did you know they now come in several different flavors? No more just plain or peanut, now you can get coconut, pretzel, and even peanut butter. I let Honey decide and she picked plain old no peanut M&M’s. You can’t watch a movie without popcorn. We decided to try the Orville Redenbacher Pop-Up Bowls (movie theater butter flavored of course). I really love the idea of the pop-up bowl. It worked great, popped right up and then right to the trash when done, no dishes needed. That is my kinda popcorn! Once we are all set we all snuggled up in my king size bed and popped in Diary of a Wimpy Kid Roderick Rules. I never saw the first one so I went in blind with this movie. The only thing I knew about it is that it is based off of a series of books that Nick enjoys reading.
I have to say this was definitely a great family movie. I really enjoyed watching it and having two boys of my own talk about being able to relate. If you haven’t seen it the basis or major plot of the story is about the two older brothers Roderick and Greg. It is your typical older brother that likes to pick on his younger sibling. The mother tired of the fighting (see you can relate right) forces the boys to spend time together to bond. Without giving away too much of the story lets just say they become partners in crime, as in you don’t tell mom I won’t tell mom.
I really found the story entertaining and my FAVORITE scene in the movie is (SPOILER ALERT) when Greg finds an old rotary phone and it takes him a few seconds to figure out how to use it. That got a good chuckle out of me. I thought the movie was a little over my daughters head but she seemed to enjoy it and watched the whole thing. This is definitely a great movie for a Family Movie night. Check out the trailer below.

Shibley Smiles Opinions:
Appropriate Age: Shibley Smiles We feel this movie is appropriate for a wide range of ages from age 5 up. It is a fun movie for the whole family and is especially fun for parents with two boys.
Recommendation: All of us felt this movie was funny and interesting. It has just the right touch of humor for both parents and children. The plot is all but something you can imagine happening in your own household, but lets hope not.
