This past weekend despite it being a holiday was a weekend of home cleaning, decorating and painting. My mother-in-law moved out at the end of June which freed up a bedroom. This means for the first time in the 11 years of my boys lives they are finally getting their own room.
My daughter due to her gender has had her own room all of her 5 1/2 years. I’ve always felt bad for Buddy knowing that he is an organizer a “everything has its place” type of child living with his brother who is more like me “free spirited” and loses everything and puts stuff anywhere. Of course this is pretty much like my husband and I, him being the organizer and me the “free spirit”.
So one major realization on my part that came out of our moving of furniture and cleaning out of drawers, chest, and under the beds was that my oldest son is a “hoarder”. Seriously I’m afraid I’m going to see him one day on the show “Hoarders“. What is so funny is my youngest son is the total opposite. When my oldest son cleans out things I have to sit with him to convince him that he needs to get rid of things. When my youngest son cleans out things I have to sit with him to make sure he doesn’t throw away anything important.
We cleaned out buckets of toys and Buddy’s night stand Monday afternoon. Turns out he collects keys, bouncy balls, dice, cards, rubber bracelets, can tops, key chains, book marks, and more. Seriously he has a collection of anything and everything. Remember the Pet Rock? Yeah he has two rocks he took from outside. He has boxes, boxes that things came in that he likes. His answer any time I tried to convince him to toss it was it was cool!
Do you live with a hoarder?
