Honey loves crayons! Who am I kidding a fresh new box of Crayola crayons is awesome! That is just the thing, she loves NEW crayons. We could fill buckets with the amount of crayons she has already had in her seven years of life. Quite a lot have made it into the trash and just recently she tore all the paper off her crayons because she thinks they look cool that way. We have been saving some of the old crayons to do something fun with them.
We decided to re-purpose them and make some more crayons in fun shapes. Of course who wants just plain red, orange, or blue crayons? No we wanted to make some fun crayons. We had two Wilton silicone molds Football and Christmas Trees. It would have been nice to pick out our own shapes but we decided that this project had a budget of $0 so we made do with what we had.
DYI Crayons Materials Needed:
- Old crayons
- Molds
- Optional: Knife
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Peel wrapper off of crayons (I used a knife to make this step a little easier). Break crayons into pieces and add to mold. Make any color combination you would like. Fill mold almost to the top. When all molds are fill put into the oven for 10-12 minutes. Once crayons are completely melted take out and let set for approximately 10 minutes (to harden). Move molds to freezer for 15-10 minutes to completely harden. Pop crayons out of molds carefully.

Ok, those are some cool looking, psychedelic crayons! I bet it’s neat to see the color change while drawing too 🙂

Very cool, I can’t tell you how many crayons we’ve contributed to the trash over the years…though probably not as many as it could’ve been, since my boys are not much for coloring.

Was looking for something to do with my granddaughter to add some fun to the rainy days we’ve had lately. How perfect! Like you, at only 3 tons and TONS of broken crayons! So simple … ingenious! Thanks!
