My kids have been in school now for 2 weeks but I know for many parts of the United States kids are just getting ready to go back in September. School may have started or is approaching but that doesn’t mean summer is ending. It is still bright and sunny, hot and humid, and we still have our weekends. Why not squeeze in a little fun with the kids whether they are in school or not?
Enjoy the End of Summer with these Fun Ideas
Weekend Camping
Maybe you can’t take a week long camping trip to your favorite camp ground but you can still enjoy a quick getaway with a weekend camping trip. Pack light, you will only be gone for two nights. Make sure you pack the marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers and definitely don’t forget the bug spray.
Afternoon Picnic
No need to pack for an overnight stay but you can still pack up and enjoy a picnic at your local park. Or if you don’t want to go too far have a backyard picnic or even one indoors. Just make sure you pack all your favorite foods and a few things to do when you’re not enjoying your lunch.
Explore Your City
Another way to stay close to home is to explore your city with your children. Enjoy a lunch down town, a trip to the library, or some hidden spot that only you know about.

These are great ideas! We love having picnics and the surprising thing is we have never explored our town even though we have lived here over three years!

These are great back to school activities. We went camping last weekend and it will probably be the last time before school. I miss summer. We had so much fun.

These are all great ideas and you can have a great picnic in the back yard too. It has been a beautiful summer in the northeast and I shall miss it, but for now the weather is still gorgeous.

We went to Six Flags the day before my youngest started back and 4 days before the oldest started back to school. Had a blast! We were there from open to close and even got to ride the new Goliath coaster, which was amazing! I think a picnic sounds great, but I bet I couldn’t talk my boys into do it with me.

So funny – we actually took our daughter to Six Flags Over Texas the day before we dropped her off for college for one last hurrah LOL! 🙂

We are back in the swing of things with school, but I’m not ready for the fun to stop. We’ve been trying to explore more of our neighboring cities recently. It’s been a blast! Long live, summer!
