It has begun! Every day I see on Facebook friends talking about low temperatures, cold weather, and even SNOW! Fall is around the corner when the leaves change and the weather along with it. That is if you don’t live in South Florida. As I see Facebook updates of inches of snow I walk out of the house in a tank top and flip flops and wish it would at least cool down a little. We laughed at work this week because a “cool” front came through and the temperature dropped a few degrees. I love Florida I do, I don’t like the cold at all, but I would definitely love some fall weather.
Signs of Fall in Florida
- People try to start turning off the air conditioner. (The weather is as fickle as the weather man himself)
- Snowbirds are often spotted.
- Football, Football, and Football!
- Hurricane worries become a thing of the past.
- When the weatherman says it is 85 instead of 95 we jump for joy for the cold front.
With the fall season our stores stock like we actually get a lot of cold weather. The stores are currently full of long sleeve shirts, sweaters, jackets, and boots. Ok, the boots I can live, with who doesn’t love a great pair of boots. However, none of this helps me when my son tells me he has outgrown his gym shorts and needs more jean shorts for school. It is so hard to find summer clothing this time of year even in Florida. For this reason I often take to the internet to find clothing for the kids. One of my favorite haunts is Amazon. I love the Prime shipping and great deals. Did you know that if you have a Discover card you can use your Cashback Bonus to pay for purchases at checkout at Amazon? This option takes the pressure off your purse, and makes for an even easier checkout.
Now through December 31st, Discover cardmembers can enroll to earn 5% Cashback Bonus on online holiday purchases up to $1,500 – that’s up to $75! By shopping online, you can automatically earn the 5%, and even more Cashback Bonus through ShopDiscover, with more than 200 online merchants offering 5-20% Cashback Bonus. More on that later.
Of course all the clothes the kids have outgrown are bagged up and given to our local Goodwill. For quite some time I held on to some coats and jackets I brought with me when I lived up north. I’ve finally donated them in hopes they will get to someone that needs them. Donating your old clothing is just one of many ways to give back to your community and to those less fortunate.
Discover Fall in Florida
So the weather doesn’t really signify that fall is upon us so instead we like to do little things to trick our senses. One thing I love to do is purchase some fall scented candles like apple cider and pumpkin pie. I love to place them throughout the house on warmers so their scent will fill the air and make us think of fall. Another great tip is to start baking for the fall weather. Take the kids apple picking or to a pumpkin patch and bring the spoils home to make some fun fall goodies. You can find some great ideas on Pinterest and then do a little shopping to find the necessary baking goods. You can find some fun cookie cutters and pie tins online.
Savings are even greater if you shop through ShopDiscover, Discover’s online shopping portal. Find seasonal kitchenware from top retailers such as Target, Bed Bath and Beyond and Macy’s. This is a quick and easy way to earn real cash rewards (at least 5% Cashback Bonus) on all fall purchases, including baking supplies
I’m always looking for great fall recipes have you seen any lately? Maybe you have a Pinterest board with some great fall recipes, decor, and ideas. I would love to see what you have pinned. Please share your fall boards below.
