If you have visited Best Buy I’m sure you’ve seen the Geek Squad. Maybe you have even used their services. I love that name “Geek” squad. Did you know that the Best Buy Geek Squad can help you right at home. No visits to the store, no lugging in your computer. Geek Squad can remotely connect to your computer and diagnosis the problem and often fix it while you get on with your day.
I recently had the opportunity to use the Geek Squad service on my main computer. My computer is an iMac and I am very nervous about toting it around even for service. It just seems to me the less movement the better chance of working computer. My computer was running a little sluggish. I couldn’t pinpoint anything specific just getting the circular rainbow often.
I decided to have the Geek Squad take a look at it for me. I simply went to the site (with my Geek Squad service already activated) and chatted with an agent. The agent remotely accessed my computer and took a look. She said that it just needed a tune-up, it appeared at one time a virus was on the computer. I agreed to let her do the tune-up and then left my computer for her to do the work getting on with my weekend chores.
I love that I didn’t have to move my computer, drive to the store, or wait in any lines. Here is a quick video on the Geek Squad:
Overall my experience was positive. The only unexpected thing that happened was when the Geek Squad employee did a tune-up I did not realize it was going to wipe out the bookmarks and some add-ons I had downloaded. Thankfully I use a third party bookmarking service and was able to reload those. I think overall, however, it was a good thing. It got rid of a lot of add-ons that I didn’t use so it was like a fresh start. I only downloaded the ones that I really needed. The computer definitely started running a little better. However a month or so later it is running slow again. I think my boys are downloading something that is causing the bad performance. I think I’m going to ring them up again so they can double check if there is anything on my computer that doesn’t belong.
I can use this service on up to three different devices which is great for those that have more then one computer. I can also use my Geek Squad service for laptops and iPads. Thankfully I’m not currently in need of service on these items.
