This post brought to you by Kidzmet. All opinions are 100% mine.
I love the concept of Kidzmet which is to match your child with the best teacher based on their personality profile. As the mother of a son who had a borderline disability disorder I can’t stress how important it is for children to have a teacher that understand their learning style. For my son he was very visual and when given verbal instructions he did not perform well. He did much better when an example of the instructions were given first.
Kidzmet allows you to create a FREE account and take a pairing portrait. This portrait based on your answers regarding your child gives you a snap shot of their
* personality type,
* cognitive style,
* multiple intelligence strengths, and
* recommended teaching approach
This report can then, if you wish, be emailed to your child’s principal to help them when deciding which teacher/class your child would excel in during the school year. I believe my son had this benefit during elementary school but only because he had an IEP plan because of the learning disability. Unfortunately this service was not offered to all children. In fact it wasn’t a service offered but only because my son worked with outside teachers and counselors they had a say in who his teacher was each year.
Kidzmet gives you the opportunity to have a say, or at least show your principal that you are taking part in your child’s education and you only want the best for both him/her and the teacher that will be working with your child. Since Honey will be going into kindergarten this coming school year I thought it would be interesting to see what Kidzmet had to say regarding her own personality and learning style. Here is a few excerpts from the report.
Ericka’s Personality Type Profile:
You have incredible powers of concentration and love to have plenty of time to work independently in a logical way. Often risk-averse, people like you prefer not to experiment and prefer situations where A + B always equals C. You feel most comfortable with rules and explicit objectives. The opposite of a procrastinator, you like to have adequate time to prepare for and reach your goals. A natural student, you thrive in traditional structured environments where your meticulous attention to detail and natural propensity toward organization is valued—even if it’s behind the scenes. You are most likely a very private person…cautious and reserved. You abhor being the center of attention. You can get nervous and anxious if you are presented with situations or problems that you don’t already know how to think about or solve. For this reason, classes that are open-ended or objectively assessed may not be a great fit for you.
It appears that Ericka’s innate talents and interests lie in the following realms:
Your natural talents strongly correlate with the traditional definition of IQ. Logical/mathematical learners like you quantify or conceptualize information in order to process it. You most likely enjoy and/or excel in math, chess, computer programming, reasoning capabilities, and scientific thinking or investigation.
The Pairing Portrait is worth taking if just for you as a parent to understand your child’s personality and learning style.
