Last week I mentioned one of my goals was to organize my closet. I’m happy to say I accomplished my goal and it really was because I posted it here and made it public. However in my organization I wondered how others organize their closet?
BEFORE
AFTER
I decided for the first time to organize my closet according to color. I’ve always organize according to use, for example work shorts, t-shirts, tank tops, etc. However I wanted something different.
My goal this week is still related to my bedroom. I must add a little explanation to the photos you are about to see. Please understand that we have been doing some painting, redecorating, and exchanging of furniture so my bedroom has become the dumping ground for anything we are not sure where to put.
So here are the areas I’m going to clean up this week. This top right is the main focus, this area use to have a shelf in which I organized my blogging stuff however the shelf belonged to my mother-in-law and when she moved the shelf went with her. The bottom right is my dresser and the photo albums use to be in a large credenza in the family room that moved into buddy’s room. The left photo is a shelf that is going to replace the missing shelf and house the photo albums.
So next Monday if I accomplish my goal there will be a new table in the corner, the shelf will be moved and organized and the dresser will be cleaned off.
So back to my original question, “How do you organize your closet?” Do you organize according to color? by style? by use?

Great job on the organizing! I need to do that too!!
Penelope says
I do it by style (I hope this goes through? Wasn’t able to comment before)

Weird I wonder why? It did go through. I am interested to see how my color organizing works for me.
Connie says
I organize by section and color in each section, sections as follows
work tops
pants
dresses
all tops I can’t wear to work.
This way I don’t waste time looking through tops that I can’t wear to work because it seems I am always running late.

That is how I have always done it, no surprise there, that we did it the same LOL. Just thought I would try something new to see if I can keep it organized for a change. I doubt it but it is worth a try!
BTW video of Honey swimming coming tomorrow.

Your closet organization looks great. It looks like you got rid o lots of clothing! I organize my closet twice a year as the weather changes. I remove the out of season clothing and pack it in a plastic tub. I hang my clothes by type (pants, shirts, skirts, jackets, etc) and then by color. I also use a different kind of hanger for my shirts. My great aunt made them (crocheted over wire hangers) for me. Now my shirt shoulders don’t get “bumps” and things don’t slide off.
I recently organized a closet in my husband’s office for storage. Check it out if you like. http://www.organizedhabits.com/storage-closet-organization-101

I’ve always organized by color and it’s always worked wonderful for me. This isn’t for everyone though but for myself I find it works great. I’ve also sorted my closet on what I wear the most and then sort them by tank tops, tshirts, jeans, capris, etc. You did a wonderful job on re-organizing your closet!! I agree with Ashley my whole house needs re-organized!! =)
Can’t wait to see Honey swimming!! My daughter is about to turn 6 and we’ve been trying to teach her to swim. She doesn’t want anything to do with it! Whenever we want her to wear something, or try to float on her back, or just want her to hold her head underwater by holding her nose she won’t do it. I’ve been watching and noticing her wanting to do her own thing. I will see her pick up her own “tool” to use and try little things. I guess it’s the whole fear of water. It’s taken me my whole life to learn how to swim just because I could never get over that fear and just relax and learn my breathing. I’m still not a perfect swimmer. I really think everyone should learn to swim though. I think it’s defintely a necessity you need in life. Instead of learning to write in cursive in school I believe every school should have a pool teaching students to swim. Sorry I got off the subject here on organizing!

I posted today a video of Honey swimming your daughter sounds a lot like mine has been she has really just changed in the past month. She is seems afraid any time we get back into the water but as she moves around she gets more confidence that is why I’m trying to make sure she is in it every week right now.

You are way more organized than I am. Your before shot is my closet all of the time. I just never have enough time or energy to attempt to get it straightened up.
Colleen says
Its been like that for MONTHS. If I had not posted here I was going to do it LOL I wouldn’t have done it this weekend. I’m already stressing over my next goal as I need to get wood glue to fix the little table I’m going to put in the corner that is replacing that white shelf LOL. However posting the goal here is really helping me to try to make sure I accomplish AT LEAST one thing non-blog related!

I don’t have a lot of clothing in my closet, but what I have is organized by season. Within the season there is no specific organization, though.

You closet looks great! I organize mine by style. All my athletic wear is in one section, dress clothes for work, summer shirts and shorts, winter sweaters and shirts. Then when the different seasons come around I just move that seasons clothes to the front.
