Thank you to all those that visited yesterday for the first day of “How to Monetize Your Blog – With Sponsored Post – Day 1”. If you missed yesterday don’t worry you can always hop on over and find out what you missed.
If you are new today I’m sharing what I have learned thanks to other bloggers/friends and my own experience.
Earned Income from 1/1/2011-2/15/2011 (1 1/2 months): $1,212.90
Realized Income (money I have received): $980.99
The difference in earned and realized has to do with some sites that require a certain level to cash out or money that is owed to me that has a slower turn around.
Twitter Revenue
One thing I’ve learned over the past 8 months is Twitter is a powerful tool. It is an easy way to reach thousands of people with a short and concise message. Don’t under estimate the power of your tweets.
Twitter isn’t my highest paying revenue earner but it is by far the easiest. Again this boils down to what you are willing to use your twitter account for. If you are willing to tweet some ads then you can be on the road to earning with twitter.
Sign Up For MyLikes: This twitter program earns me the majority of my twitter income. What seems like small potatoes will eventually add up. Once you sign up you will be given a list of ads you can tweet. You chose what you want to tweet and can even write the tweet yourself. You have the option of posting to Twitter and/or Facebook. I usually only post to Twitter unless it is a really good deal that I think my Facebook followers would like to hear about. I am selective in what campaigns I chose to tweet. Usually as long as it is something I feel is legit and something that may be of interest I will tweet it. I always click on where the tweet is going to take my readers to be sure the landing site is appropriate. Payout is usually .07 cents to .42 cents per click. I know this does not sound like a lot but depending on your twitter following this could really ad up.
One month of earnings is $16.74. If you multiply this by 12 months you get 200.88 for the year just for sending out some tweets.
Note: It is important with MyLikes to read the terms of the tweet. Once you select the “Like This” under the advertised tweet it will tell you which clicks count. Some are United States, or UK only, or even specific states. Just wanted to alert you to this so you can decide whether the terms fit into your following audience.
Sign Up For Sponsored Tweets: This program has moved a little slower for me then MyLikes. I currently have a balance of $7.10 which I earned in the first month. With this program you wait for sponsors to ask you to tweet something for them. Once you have agreed you write a tweet that needs to be approved (similar to Social Spark ).There is small opportunities that pay anywhere from .02 – .10 cents per click however I have not taken part in these and instead wait for sponsors to work with me. It was suggested to keep your per tweet amount at about $2. I have no basis to whether this is the acceptable or average price. I recently lowered it to $1 per tweet to see if it will pick up some.
Note: I actually received 3 tweets yesterday at the $1 so my total is now up to $10 .10
At $7.10 per month that is $85.20 a year. Not big bucks, but I’m hoping over time this one will pick up for me.
If you are looking to build your Twitter following to help improve your twitter earning power I recommend a paid program called Tweet Adder. I really love this program and it has some great benefits.
1. I can schedule tweets. I like to tweet my giveaways to help remind my followers to enter. I can set up all my giveaways in a queue that will randomly post throughout the day. I can repeat this each day removing or adding to my list. I usually keep a giveaway post in the rotation until it has ended. This is a great way to remind my followers of my current giveaways without having to remember to go to each giveaway and tweet on a daily basis.
2. I can re-tweet for other bloggers. I have a list of good blogger friends that I want to help promote. I can set Tweet Adder to grab their tweets and re-tweet to my own followers. I can do this by keyword. For example I have mine set to grab the tweets of @thelifeofrylie and tweet anything with the tag #giveaway in her tweet. So I’m promoting her giveaways to my own readers. This gives my readers a chance to find a giveaway they might otherwise not know of and I’m helping out a good friend.
This is a paid software and may not be something you wish to purchase until you begin bringing in some money from your blog, or maybe you are willing to spend now to earn later. This really is a great twitter software and I highly recommend it.
Feel free to leave a comment if you have any questions or you can always email me too. I’m always willing to help out where ever I can.

Thank you so much for sharing all your tips! I am trying to monetize a little at a time. So far my biggest struggle has been getting products to review and/or giveaway, any tips on where to start there?

Colleen, thank you so much for posting all this wonderful information. I have been blogging for about a year and a half and have constantly wondered how folks make any money at it. I have the google ad bar thing and in all that time have made $3.44 so it is so nice to have some direction finally. I signed up under you yesterday and am awaiting approval from the Social Spark folks. I can't wait to see tomorrow's info. 🙂

I've spent more on My Likes than I've earned 🙂 Not even a dollar the first month. You make me want to stay with it though.
Thanks for more great information!

Great job! I tried very hard last year to monetize my blog and when we did our taxes last week, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I made. This year hopefully will be the same or even better!
