I’ve had a lot of questions and written up some tips for people on how to tap into your stumble power. One thing that is hard to just write about without photos is how to Stumble PhotoBlog so I thought I would do a quick tutorial. I will be doing a few more post regarding jazzing up your profile and my own advice on how to stumble properly, but today is how to Stumble PhotoBlog.
First I’m asked why? Why should I Stumble PhotoBlog. The simple answer is to make you look more attractive as a blogger. In order for you to increase your stumble power you need followers, and you need followers that will enjoy what you stumble and like what you discover. So to do that you need to attract followers.
People are naturally “visual”. Words are great and we all use them on our blog to tell a story but at a glance a photo is worth a thousand words. So if you Stumble PhotoBlog while you are stumbling you will fill your profile with images of what you stumble. When someone visits your profile they will see the photos, see what types of articles you stumble and hopefully chose to follow you.
That said the first thing I want to say is that when you Stumble PhotoBlog the photos only show up on your profile. They do not show up under the stumble itself. Here is an example of a stumble. I am simply on the page that you would see when you post your own review.

You can see my review with no photo
However when you click on my profile and in this case click my discoveries it appears like this.

You can see here with my review is a photo from the post
So How Do you Accomplish This?
We are going to pretend you are discovering a post for the first time. So you are on a post/article and decide you want to Stumble PhotoBlog the post, so you want the photo to show in your profile.
1. The first thing you do is right click on the photo that is in the post.
2. A box will appear that says Stumble PhotoBlog, click it.
When you do this a new box will appear.
1. Click Yes this is safe for work
2. Pick a category from the drop down box
3. In the review field there is a some html (this is your photo). Write your review either before or after the html but DO NOT delete any part of the html.
4. Add Review
Once you submit your review you will see like the first photo at the top of this post that your photo does not show up. However if you go to your profile you will see the photo show up when people are viewing your StumbleUpon profile.
I encourage you to check out my Shibley Smiles StumbleUpon Profile (and feel free to follow me while you are there) to see what it looks like when a person Stumble PhotoBlogs often. There are times when I can not add a photo, for example if the blog as turned off right click, if the photo is too large, or if I stumble from my phone.
Feel free to ask any questions below and I will be sure to address them promptly.
Happy Stumbling!!!
UPDATE 7/24/2011 : I have found out from others that this feature does not work in Chrome.

Hey Colleen,
You mention in your Stumble Upon site that you are willing to share. But I don’t even now how to do that? I don’t seem to have the same buttons on my home page for Stumble Upon. I’m so lost. I want to learn how to maximize Stumble Upon so I love your article! I would love more!
Colleen Shibley says
Do you have the Stumble Upon bar installed? You need to install the bar and it works best in Firefox and Chrome. I am planning two more post one of which is basic stumble, and how to do it.
Alicia says
I played around with Stumble Upon and I think I figured out the share. I do have Firefox. I was able to have the Photoblog like you demonstrated. I NEVER would have figured that out without your article. Thanks again! I look forward to your next posts:)

I don’t get the ‘Stumble Photoblog” to show up when I right click on photos. I do have the stumbleupon bar installed on chrome.
Colleen Shibley says
I’ve heard from others since I posted this that Chrome does not have the PhotoBlog option. The only other thing you can do is create the html code yourself in order to put it in your review, or use Firefox until Chrome adds that option.

Great tips thank you! I stumbled this post, using photoblog 😉

Thanks! I found it was easier to just create a post then to keep answering the same question over and over again. Hopefully it will be useful to others. I have a few more in the works.

I was trying to figure out how to accomplish this yesterday!! Thank you for the clear and easy tutorial 🙂
The Nerdy Nurse says
so getting more followers on stumbleupon will make the links I submit be seen by more stumblers…
well that makes sense. I had no idea it worked that way though.
Nichol says
Awesome! I never do photoblog always forget, I should start.

I keep hearing about this and have seen the button but didn’t know why I needed to stumble photos if I was stumbling the post – this is very helpful!
Colleen says
Glad I could help, it is just theory and a personal preference of course but I like to see photos on other stumblers so I can only assume there are other people that prefer it as well.
Lisa @ljenator says
Well of course it doesn’t work in Chrome.. it’s because that’s what I use! 🙂 🙂
Thanks for this! VERY cool to know!

I didn’t realize there are different ways to stumble. I thought a stumble was a stumble, so thanks for the heads up!

Interesting! I use SU but I wasn’t aware of the SU PhotoBlog option! Thanks for the info!
Tamara says
So, do you PhotoBlog posts that you’ve already done? Or PhotoBlog instead of just discovering how you normally would? I’m just trying to figure out when it’s best used.
Colleen Shibley says
Both. I usually photoblog when ever I am stumbling. Instead of hitting the thumbs up I do the right click and then leave the photo and a review. I have also gone back to old ones and added but for the most part I do them as I stumble.
Yesterday I was stumbling from my phone which does not allow you to photoblog so right now my profile is not showing many photoblogs.
ConnieFoggles says
I love doing this! I add the code before and after the photo so it lines up nicely on my SU page. (remove the spaces). Thanks for sharing! Giving you a thumbs up too! I’m ConnieFoggles on SU if you’d like to follow me.

Awesome! I’ve been stumbling for a while now, but I didn’t know how to do it so the photos showed up like that. Great tip.
I’m following you on stumble now.

Great post, I’m heading over to see how it all works. Love getting great info….I had no clue how people did that, or what it was called.

I tried to right click on the photo I wanted to Stumble photoblog and that option is not available to me….wonder how I can get it to work, if you know…please tell me 🙂
Colleen says
I’ve found this only works with the toolbar in Firefox. Which browser are you use?
