A couple years ago I cancelled my gym membership for financial reasons. It was a really tough decision even though I wasn’t really using the gym much at the time. I felt I was giving up on a healthy lifestyle. I know that is not true but it is amazing how the thought played over and over again in my head. I finally caved and sent the email canceling my $35 a month membership to a gym I was barely using and decided it was the smart thing to do.
In the next years I came to the realization that I didn’t need the gym to lose weight. I could workout at home, have fun, and still get in shape. There are so many ways from the kinect, to the outdoors, to swimming, and more. So I became the anti-gym woman, preaching how you can do it all from home. I still believe it can be done from home, or anywhere you want. As long as you are dedicated and it works for you.
This weekend in a conversation with my mom we got to talking about working out and a gym that opened up not too long ago in our area called YouFit. I knew of the gym but dismissed it when we would receive coupons stating the dues were $10 a month. I knew no gym charges only $10 a month without a long list of rules and restrictions. Like you can’t come during peak hours or on weekends. After talking to my mother who has a friend that is a member my husband and I decided to stop on over and see what they had to offer. The gym is within walking distance from our home.
We toured the facilities and we both thought it had what we needed to help us reach our health goals for 2012. Surprisingly the monthly dues are only $10 with no contract. This is a month to month. The initial fee for $39.99 ended up being only $10 with a coupon I found online. There are no family plans but at $10 a month per person you really can not beat the price. Their hours are perfect 5am-12pm Mon-Thurs, 5am-10pm Fri, and 8am-8pm Sat-Sun.
So I did it even though I hadn’t planned to do so. I joined the gym!
I’m really looking forward to trying the arch trainer which I hadn’t even heard of before. I’m not sure when my schedule will allow me to go but I will get my $10 a months worth that is for sure. I’m excited about having another way of getting in fitness on a weekly basis. The ability to go to the gym is a great addition to my Kinect work outs, roller blading with my daughter, and our sit-up and push-up routines.
Here is to a Healthy Improvement in 2012!

Awesome! Wasn’t it a good feeling canceling something you were paying for but not using every month?? Your new gym sounds awesome…and so cheap with no contract to boot. 🙂 I actually just cancelled my People mag subscription that I have had FOREVER because being so busy with working full time, taking care of the kids and trying to blog as well, I just don’t have time to ever sit down and read it. Saved me $66 in renewal fees!

Oh how sad though LOL that is my all time favorite magazine! I have never had a subscription due to the cost but that would be the one I want. However with the amount of money having it sit and not read it is definitely not worth it.

Yea for you. It takes courage to make a commitment like that AND tell the world about it. Good luck with getting a schedule and keep it. It is tough but worth it.

I’ve never been a member of a gym before but I think I would greatly benefit from it. Maybe I should look into something like the deal you got!

I too had to cancel an expensive gym membership too. I did use it more often than you, but it was too costly.
