So I was given the chance to try out this new..umm…it doesn’t seem product is the right word, and you don’t really try out a pet. Let’s just say I was given the chance to grow some fish. Yes, I said grow my own fish. My BFF is a kit you can purchase with a step by step guide in how to grow your own fish.
Are My BFF™ Real Fish?
Yes. The scientific name is Nothobranchius Korthausae, and orginate from South Africa or South American regions.
How many My BFF™ will hatch at one time?
The My BFF™ Miracle pouch can produce up to 8 fish,or even more, however that may not happen all at one time. Please refer to Step # 2 of the detailed breeding guide (see reverse side) for hatching another batch from your miracle pouch.
Your My BFF Kit comes with all the necessary tools (except a fish tank) to your up to 8 or more fish.
Before you begin the process of hatching your eggs you most first grow their food. What do they eat? Well that would be brine shrimp. It takes the shrimp 24-48 hours to grow. Ours took only 24. You receive two small containers in which you add some bottled water, salt and a pinch of the shrimp.
Once your shrimp are ready, which look like little dust particles in water, you are ready to hatch your eggs. My container below is not pretty, as it is a measuring cup. I had purchased a small $10 aquarium BEFORE I read that you can not put them into an aquarium until they are about 2 inches long. So we used what we had, a 2 cup measuring cup.
You soak the pouch with the fish eggs for a few minutes in the bottled water (8-12 ozs) and then pour it all into the container. It is said your fish could hatch within hours but may take up to 24. We noticed the fish around the 24 hour time frame. I’ve taken a picture and I’ve tried to outline the fish but they are very tiny and hard to see. ESPECIALLY in a photo. However we have about 6 or so I would say. Also hard to count when they are swimming.
The fish are to be fed everyday and then after 1-2 weeks the water should be changed every 2-3 days. There are instructions on how to transfer them to bigger containers and then eventually get them into an aquarium.
Honey and Buddy were very excited about this project. Honey because she loves any time of animals. Buddy because it is so COOL to grow your own. It should be fun watching the fish grow and exciting for the children to be part of it. Look for additional reviews and a giveaway as our BFF begin to grow!
