The Christmas decorations are packed away the lights safe in their home until next year however I’m still reminiscing of this Christmas. Or I’m just super late on posting about it because I’ve been enjoying my vacation. However you want to look at it yes I’m still talking about Christmas even as we celebrate the last day of 2011.
This year we celebrated Christmas at the Shibley home. This was a first for us and it was great not to have to pack up and travel. However the reason I say “well sort of” when it comes to Christmas dinner is even through we celebrated at my home I did not cook the dinner. My mother usually cooks Christmas dinner and this year was no different, the only difference was the venue. We still had or traditional french onion soup, salad, prime rib, baked potatoes, and rolls. A dinner my husband looks forward to all year long.
For the occasion I purchased 2 sets of new dishes, a set of glasses (we use plastic cups primarily at our home), a tablecloth, napkins, and even some cute Christmas salt and pepper shakers and a butter dish. I was quite pleased with the outcome.
My daughter is the true hostess and I see many parties in her future. She was so excited everyone was coming to her house that she made place cards so each person would know where they needed to sit. She personalized each one with her own drawings like the one for her father that included a stick figure of her and her daddy holding hands.
If you are wondering what the white things on each place setting are they are Christmas Crackers. An English tradition you can read more about here: Traditional Christmas Crackers. I’m not sure when this tradition of ours started but we each open our cracker before dinner starts, check out our surprise and wear our paper crown through dinner. I didn’t think to take a photo this year but we it is quite the picture.
Christmas dinner was a hit and followed but some fun for the whole family on the new Kinect. Hopefully I can convince everyone to come again next year and maybe I will even help a little more with dinner until I can make it all on my own!
