I thought these two subjects went hand and hand today. First for all those that are visiting I challenge you to walk today on National Walking Day. This day is nationally sponsored by one of the healthier fast food chains on the block Subway!
On this day, employees are encouraged to wear sneakers to work and take at least 30 minutes out of their day to get up and walk. It’s a great way to raise awareness of the importance of physical activity and to give your coworkers a friendly push toward a healthier life. National Walking Day fits in perfect with my current commitment as a Walkabout Ambassador to a 28-Day Walkabout!
Walkabout: An Australian journey for well-being, during which one seeks to clarify his/her life purpose. A time of reflection and to reconnect with family and community.
I was excited to be selected as one of the 50 ambassadors out of over 500 applications. The Walkabout officially kicked off March 27th. Since that day I have committed to walking daily. My personal commitment right now is 30 minutes a day. I’m currently using a training program to get in shape and lose some unwanted pounds, so this 30 minutes is on top of my previous commitment.
After one week I have to say I feel wonderful. So energized that last night I tossed and turned for 3 hours because as much as I wanted to sleep I think my body didn’t need the rest. I have met my goal every day 30 minutes or more walking in different ways and venues. I’ve used my indoor treadmill often for the morning hours, I’ve walked the track at my son’s baseball field while he warms up for a game, and have walked my block with my daughter biking beside me. I’ve enjoyed the nature around me snapping some fun photos!

I would love to hear of your own goals and commitments to a healthier you in 2012. Have you decided to commit to the 28-Day Walkabout? Are you eating better? Joined a gym? Started another program?
Disclaimer: I was selected as a Walkabout Ambassador and received a welcome package to aid me on my journey. Opinions are my own and NOT influenced by monetary compensation. You may read more of my disclosure here.

I love walking! Last summer I was walking about 3-4 miles every day and then when it got cold here in Illinois I just quit. I tried walking on the treadmill and ended up getting motion sickness. LOL So now that its getting nice out again I am ready to get back at it.

Treadmill is definitely not my preference but I’m finding the time I have to walk is either 6am or 9pm and I absolutely do not feel comfortable by myself outside in the dark.
Of course pretty soon here in SoFL it will be to hot to even go outside.

I didn’t know about a national Walking day. I Prefer walking to jogging. I’m glad you are walking more. I am trying to do it too.

I wish more people would be serious about getting out and walking, even if it is for one day, it won’t kill you!
