When people walk into a living room, they can usually tell a lot about the person who lives there. This is your space; and the way you decorate it is your trademark. It depends on your personal style on what you have in your home. Some people like contemporary, while others like modern, minimalist or rustic.
Deciding on and researching the look that you want for your living room can be as much fun as actually buying it. Hours can be spent looking for gorgeous floor lamps, quirky covers or unusual rugs and as we all know there are no hard and fast rules about decorating your rooms, it is entirely up to you!
If you have a fairly conventional style but would like to add a bit of oomph, the ideal accessory for your living room could be some unusual floor lamps, which are not only practical but can add elegance and style to a room. There are some great lamps of this type which can be found in ethnic or fair trade stores. A crinkle lidi lamp is inspired by Balinese flowers and is made from palm leaves and fabric on a metal frame. Because they are made from leaves, the height will vary from lamp to lamp but they are generally all a meter high.
Recently in a luxury magazine, I read about a great lamp that was not only spectacular to look at, it was a multipurpose piece for your living room. It looked very similar to a three legged stool with a bowl sitting on it. This may not sound attractive but it was. The light sits above the bowl and illuminates whatever you want to display, such as fresh fruit (the light is high enough not to heat up the fruit), flowers or anything else that you want to show off.
Feature walls are popular and if you are in anyway inclined to the arts, you could create a graffiti wall or, if you are not known for your tagging prowess, get some stencils of your choice and spray those patterns on to give you a wall that is not just a block color. I have seen some great pictures decorating living room walls and two of the most memorable were ones made by the homeowner. She bought bright and patterned material, 2 large canvasses and a staple gun. An hour later she had two of the most gorgeous pieces of art for her lounge, showing that you can let your imagination run wild and make your living room your statement.
