I was very excited when my son and his team won the first play off game last Monday. I went into the game with no expectations just a hope that they would win. The season hasn’t been the best season for the Thunder. The game ended up being one of the best they had played winning 7-4.
So this Saturday I went into the game with a little bit of apprehension. I was excited they won the last game but wasn’t so sure how this game was going to turn out. It was one of the most nail biting games I have watched these boys play. Truth be told last weeks game was a better played game overall, but in the end on Saturday they won once again 8-7.
These game came down to the very last play, with the other team down by one, in the bottom of the last inning they had bases loaded, a big hitter on base, with a full count. This game was going to be decided by this one play. Either a huge hit bringing in the two runs to win the game, or any type of hit that brought in at least one run, or an out. Our pitcher who I can only assume was nervous with all the pressure managed to throw the last strike. After many foul tips the batter missed the ball ended the game. As a parent I felt terrible for the batter, my son has been in that position before, but as a Thunder mom I was beyond excited.
This is Nick’s first championship game after two very close calls in the past. He played football for one season and his team went undefeated right up until the playoff game in which they lost 24-25. Also his last baseball season they too went undefeated and it was down to the last four teams and after many rained out attempts they canceled the season and gave medals to the last four teams.
So Wednesday the Thunder will play in the championship game. I’m excited for my son that they have made it to the end and I will keep my fingers crossed that they win. Even if they don’t this season has been a joy to be a part of. The kids have gotten very close and they are all such a wonderful bunch. I wish they could carry on together next season together.
