As a long time loyal customer of Otterbox I was excited to try out their newest member of the iPhone case product line the Otterbox Resurgence. My phone rarely makes it through the whole day without needing some type of additional charging. I assume this is because I check my mail all day long. I listen to my books to and from work. I listen to music at work (sometimes). I’m using my phone a lot during the day. There are also a few apps that I use that really seem to drain my battery like Facebook and Bingo Blitz.
When I was asked if I wanted to review the Otterbox Resurgence case I thought this is right up my alley. My husband has a similar case made by a different brand and he loves it. I was hoping to have the case before I went on my cruise but unfortunately it didn’t make it to me on time. I received my case and put it on my phone. One thing about Otterbox cases, they are easy to get on (just not as easy to get off).
The Otterbox Resurgence comes in four different colors. I ended up choosing the Satin Rose which I absolutely LOVE. Additional colors include black, glacier, and teal shimmer.
At first the biggest problem I had was that I never had a power cord around when I DID run out of battery. I wasn’t charging it at night because I knew I had the battery backup, however this left me running out of battery at odd times. What I found worked for me was charging my phone and case each night. I would often run out of battery or get low around 4-5 pm. I press of the button and my phone would recharge and be ready to go.
I tested out the phone by first charging the case (without the phone) ad suggested until it was 100% charged. I then put it on my phone and used it as I normally would. When my battery hit 14% I used the back up battery and my phone charged to 96%. You might wonder how you will know if you have any battery back up. With a quick push of the button you will see a series of lights. Each quarter of the circle that remains lit is an indication of who much backup battery you have. In this picture below you can see that the backup battery is currently at a level of 25%.
I definitely like the extra battery life the Otterbox Resurgence offers me, as you can see I need it during my every day life. It will also come in very handy when on press trips or vacation. Since I often use my phone as a camera when vacationing I would hate for it to run out of battery when I’m not in a place to recharge it. One thing I’m not real keen on is how hard it is to get off the case. Due to the fact that the case has to use a special extender to use your headphones I found myself needing to take off my case. I keep a set of headphones at home and at work. I left the extender on the headphones at work and wanted to use my headphones at home. Without the extender I needed to take the case off in order to be able to use them. After several attempts and broken nails I gave up. My husband’s case has slides apart easily and lets him get to his phone if needed. Of course this could be seen as a pro as well because it means the case is not going to fall off.
As with all Otterbox products your phone is encased in a thick layer of protection. I have dropped my phone and thankfully, due to it being in the case, it has weathered through my clumsiness. I’m not a fan of how much weight the case adds to my phone but at some point you have to compromise!
