This past weekend Honey and I had a girls day out, just the two of us and hit our local theater for a movie. Her pick was “The Lorax” if you missed my review check it out : The Lorax Review. After leaving the movies we both were ready to plant something beautiful to grow in our front yard so we headed off to do just that. With a bag of Miracle-Gro® Expand ‘n Gro™ we recently received we were eager to try it out with our pick of flowers and veggies. I left the decision up to Honey. Her choice some colorful flowers and watermelon. (I have no idea where I’m going to grow this watermelon but I’m going to give it my best shot.)
When we got home Saturday Honey was itching to get outside to plan her flowers! Of course like any good mother I had to read all the directions first, where to plant, how to use the Expand ‘n Gro, etc. Since the Expand ‘n Gro is formulated to expand I didn’t want to OVER use it.
In pots or in‐ground, the absorbent coir fibers help ensure that water is used efficiently. Expand ‘n Gro retains up to 50% more moisture than basic potting soils and then releases water as plants need it, to help prevent over or under watering. Since moisture and nutrients must be able to reach plant roots, proper air space and circulation in soil is critical for plant health. Tilling this planting mix into native soil can reduce the soil’s bulk density – making it up to 40% lighter, and creating up to 90% more air space. The result is more workable native soil with better water holding ability, moisture distribution, and drainage, all of which ultimately creates an improved rooting environment for plants.
We prepared the ground, spread our Miracle-Gro Expand ‘n Gro over the ground mixing with the soil, watered, watered, and watered.
Just four days later we have a “baby” flower.
Miracle-Gro® Expand ‘n Gro™
- Up to 3X the Flowers and Vegetables!* *versus native soil
- Significantly improves soil for multiple years
- Concentrated planting mix expands up to 3X when water is added
- Feeds for up to 6 months
- All natural fibers hold up to 50% more water than basic potting soil
We also decided to plant a fruit, as mentioned Honey decided on watermelon. We didn’t get a chance to plant them until Monday so no baby watermelon plants just yet. However we were able to watch the Miracle-Gro expand when we added water due to the confinement of the cups. The watermelon will be inside for 4 weeks before we move them outside.
Now is the perfect time to prep your garden for the Spring and Summer seasons!
