At the beginning of every year it seems losing weight and getting healthy is at the top of New Years resolutions. It is usually one of mine. This year is no different, well maybe a little different. This year I started losing weight a month before the New Year began. So this year my resolution is to continue to lose the weight.
When trying to reach a goal, a goal that often times seems unachievable, it is best to set mini goals. Take small steps so you don’t feel like you are overhauling your life in one shot.
Water
To me a very important step in getting healthy is water consumption, and cutting out soda. We drink a lot of soda in the Shibley household. When I’m trying to lose weight I find it best to cut it out totally including diet. For me drinking water 100% of the time works! I keep a 32 ounce container of water with me at all times often adding ice to make it cold and refilling as needed.
Scheduling
I also find sticking to a schedule works best. I notice that I start to have thoughts of “unhealthy” foods and my willpower waivers when I skip a planned meal. It also helps to be prepared and have snacks on hand if you happen to catch yourself out and hungry. Keeping Quaker Popped Rice Snacks on hand is a good way to be prepared.
Variety
Though I haven’t started yet I do plan on exercising more this year. One of my Christmas presents from my husband was a bike. I like to have several different ways to exercise from DVD’s, Kinect, walking, biking, etc. Having a variety of things to do means I’m less likely to get bored.
Support
Having a support system makes getting healthy easier. I use to think I didn’t need anyone but I realize that sometimes I just need that someone to comment on how well I’m doing, or remind me I don’t really need that piece of cheesecake.
Care
I use to think it was a waste to spend money on clothing and accessories when I didn’t “feel” pretty. I’ve recently learned that no matter how I feel about my weight or how I look dressing to look nice helps keep my spirits up and motivated.
