Usually around this time of year I get the itch. You know…the rearranging, decorating bug. I start gazing a little longer at color swatches while I’m shopping or paying more attention to new throw pillows, sconces, or shelving. When I get this feeling it’s usually swiftly followed by the urge to Spring clean. We might not be as cooped up as some of the other parts of the nation, but a good thorough scrub down just refreshes a home and casts off the last remnants of the winter blues. Spring cleaning can be a huge undertaking, but there are some hacks that I’ve found that save time while getting the job done.
Assess the situation: Determine what actually needs to be done and what you have time for. Do you want to do a full clean or focus on specific areas? Make a list of your priorities and then stick with it. When you start working on other projects or areas, return the focus to your list.
Gather your supplies: Grab a tote or basket and fill it with a variety of cleaning supplies including sponges, rubber gloves, microfiber cloths, and whatever cleaners or disinfectants you use. This is a convenient way to bring your supplies to each room.
Top to bottom or circle around: Depending on the cleaning you want to do, choose a top to bottom or circle method. Start with ceilings and work your way down or start with a specific part of the room and work your way clockwise. As you finish an area, move on!
Recruit the troops: Despite the moans and groans of your family, Spring cleaning can be done much faster with everybody involved. Assign each person a task from the list. This step is always easier when you add some elements of fun. Turn on some tunes and see who can finish their job first.
Reward the efforts: When the list is complete, remember to treat yourself and anybody that participated in Spring cleaning. For me, it would be the perfect time to work on a few redecorating projects. I can earn 10% CashBack Bonus with Discover at Home Decorators Collection Online as well as at ACE Hardware Online for any outdoor DIYs. RReward your family by signing up for the next rotating CashBack category through Discover for April through June – which is 5% CashBack at restaurants and movies.
