Do you notice that when you work out or get moving you inevitably feel better? I work at a desk all day long. This is one of the disadvantages to an office job. We recently started a health program at work and each month we are talking health. Walking is a great way to stay healthy and de-stress!
Benefits of Walking
- It pumps up your endorphins
- It’s meditation in motion
- It improves your mood
Something so easy can often be challenging in our world these days. With computers, televisions with hundreds of channels, cars, and more we find ourselves often tuning into technology instead of to our health. One of the best ways to start a new habit is to track your success. Walking is such an easy trackable exercise. For example using tools like the Alvita Ultimate Pedometer by Ormon.
Features of the Alvita Ultimate Pedometer
- Tri-Axis Technology
- Smart Sensor Technology
- Four Tracking Modes
- Automatic Reset
- 7-Day Memory
Tips to Add More Walking Into Your Day
Walking is such an easy fitness exercise to incorporate into your every day life.
Take a Walk with a Friend
My husband and I use to go for a walk at night just the two of this. This was a great way to bond and talk about our day while taking in some fresh air. When we visit the beach we love to talk a walk.
Do Your Own Housework
Instead of having someone clean get up and clean. Pick a room to clean each day so each day you are up and moving. To have a little more fun add some music and dance while cleaning.
Play Outside with the Kids
Be a kid again, run outside, play hide n’ seek, red light green light, or any of the games that have children running through the yard with squeals of delight. Not only will you get in some steps your kids will love the added attention.
Skip the Elevator Take the Stairs
This is an easy way to increase your steps. If you are shopping or visiting anywhere that has stairs make an effort to take them instead of an elevator or escalator.
Walk Instead of Drive
Instead of driving down to the corner store walk instead! We are within walking distance from our local grocery store. At work we often visit our local grocery store to grab lunch and we walk instead of taking our cars.
Make a Goal and Track Your Steps
10,000 steps seems to be the magic number when it goes to how many steps you should take each day. For me this is a steep number since I do so much desk work but it can be done. When I have a pedometer or tracking device on I find myself getting up more at work and going that extra mile to get in more steps. Omron Fitness has lots of fun products to help you with this tip!
