Follow up story to yesterday’s Wordless Wednesday….
I would love to say that my husband was head over heels and lost his mind (or head) blinded by his love for his bride. Well hopefully he was and still is. However that my friends is not the tale of the Headless Groom.
Truthfully the tale is probably funnier in the moment then the story I can tell.
The day was May 9, 1998. My awesome, very efficent, and proficent wedder planner (my mother), took on the project of putting together a wedding the same weekend (I think or the weekend before) she was moving her entire 4 bedroom home to Florida. Yep we are a little crazy around here. We were living with my mother and stepfather in Georgia and decided to get married just days before they were moving out of their gorgeous house on the golf course to move to South Florida.
Our wedding was a great time to have a last party with friends and family and lasted into the night, even during a tornado warning. My new husband and I stayed until the very end with my buddy sleeping like there was nothing going on the music, laughing, and talking didn’t bother him at all. Yes Buddy was nine months old at our wedding. When the last guest left we helped clean and pack everything up. My stepfather trying to help decided to pick up a box to take to the car. I can’t remember anymore what was in the box other then the cake topper, and you can see why I remember that. After a night of dancing, drinking, and fun let’s just say we weren’t all that coordinated. The box spilled from his hands, a tiny head rolled out and VIOLA the headless groom emerged. Considering it was the end of the night and my honey and I had just “tied the knot” we all found it quiet hilarous to look down and see that missing head. My husband picked up the cake topper and we all just busted out laughing, as you can just see the irony of the poor groom becoming headless just hours after getting married. He willing posed for the photo that is the very last photo in my wedding album and always gets comments and laughs. The question still remains was it an accident? Or was my stepfather secretly sending my husband a message. “Screw up son and it is off with your head!”
Thank you all for the fun comments yesterday on my photo, just for fun I have included a few photos from that fun night, and needless to say hubby and I are still going strong and he does indeed still have his head!
