Just thought I would post a quick Warning regarding an email I received that appeared to be from Amazon on the surface. With all the shopping everyone is doing for the holidays I’m not surprised by such tactics from spammers and hackers. I received the following email this morning. (Note: I’ve disabled the links in the email so no one clicks on them)

At first glace I thought, oh crap someone is ordering on Amazon with my account. I immediately started getting a little worried. However before I clicked on anything or got too upset I investigated a little further.
Investigation
- I first checked my Amazon account to make sure there was no order placed. DO NOT do this by clicking any of the links in the email. I only assume they are a virus or sending you somewhere you don’t want to go.
- It is very obvious at a closer look that the originating email is not from Amazon.
- The email address this was sent too was not my address, however it was sent through my blog extension @shibleysmiles.com so it was forwarded to my main account email.
I just wanted to share this with you so you do not fall victim to this type of SPAM!

I received an e-mail almost exactly like this not long ago. I also receive lots of e-mails from fake paypal e-mail accounts. I always make sure to open a new tab and go directly to the sites and log in to check on my account. There are probably so many people that fall for these things. I am guessing maybe the links take you to a fake login page. Most certainly not https:// so that you will type in your password and they can use it to get into your accounts.

yikes crazy! I never open those fake ebay and paypal emails, but I hadn’t thought of there being fake amazon ones!

I got one of these. I buy a lot of stuff from Amazon this time of year.
I, also, buy a lot of stuff from CafePress. I just ordered something from them that they, (on CafePress’ website), said would ship in two parts.
When I glanced at, I thought it was from CafePress… Since I knew that it was coming in 2 pieces I just ignored it.
Guess I should read these things closer.
Mozilla’s email client does a pretty good job identifying phishing emails. I wonder why this one got through…

Thanks for the warning. There will be many victims, I fear.
