Everyone knows – or should know – that exercise is good for them. This is the information we have been told our entire lives, and there is plenty of scientific evidence to back up this fact too. Exercise is something we should all do regularly to maintain a healthy weight and become fitter overall.

Exercise Can Slow Down Aging
For some people (although not everyone), it has been shown that moderate exercise can have a positive effect on the signs of aging. Aging is the side effect of cells dividing. The longer we live, the more the cells will divide, and each time they are shorter, it results in wrinkles, fine lines, and even gray hair. It’s also why organs start to fail and when our eyesight deteriorates, and cataracts develop as we get older – the cells are just not strong enough to maintain them anymore.
Although it is possible to have surgery for our joints and cataract lenses inserted for our wonderful vision, some people won’t require this if they exercise regularly as their cells won’t shorten as much, and the signs of aging won’t be so obvious.
Stimulates The Brain
Studies have shown that regular exercise can stimulate brain function and specifically the areas of the brain that are responsible for memory and learning. This is because exercise changes the brain’s structure, and although scientists are still unsure why this happens, they know that it certainly does.
If you want to have a better memory and understand information much more easily, exercise could be the answer. It might also prevent or at least delay the onset of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease since keeping the brain busy is a factor in staving off these issues. The busier we can keep our brains, the healthier we will be overall, and the more we can get out of our lives.
No matter what kind of exercise you do, whether it’s running a marathon, visiting the gym, or taking a brisk walk to work instead of driving, the result is that your body will produce additional serotonin, dopamine, and endorphins. These are natural processes within the body that will instantly boost your mood and make you feel much happier, and doing more exercise becomes easier because you know it makes you feel great.
Even if you don’t want to exercise initially, it’s a good idea to push yourself to do it. Not only is it good for your health, but it will make you feel good and happy, and that’s never a bad thing. Studies have even shown that those suffering from mild depression can benefit from regular exercise because of this, although it is best to seek help from your doctor if you feel you might have this mental health issue.
