Word Winder is a challenging game of strategic moves and word creation. This was definitely a challenge game for this family who are primarily math minded people. This game found Honey as my partner as it is for ages 8 and up and definitely since the object is to spell words it is not something we could easily adapt to her level.
So instead it was Honey and I against each one of the boys. The concept of the game is fun and challenging, try to great a word and connect your color marker from one side of the game board to another. However my boys are vicious and like to block you at each turn.
In the end we all ended up giving up before we finished the game, as I said words are not really our thing. However I wanted to bring the game to your attention because I honestly feel like it is a game unlike other word games that are out there. It is a little bit of Boggle, Scramble, and Connect Four. It is more then just spelling, you have to think through your words and moves and watch your opponent so they don’t sneak to the other side before you.
Your words can be spelled in any pattern as long as the next letter touches the previous letter so you have eight ways to move as each corner counts. The longer the word the better chance you have of making it through to the other side or at least giving yourself different directions to go.
In fact the website has a great tutorial on:
I also noticed that in addition to the board game there is app for Nook and it is coming soon for iPad and Kindle!
